Any reason why one shouldn't use the adaptve humidity setting if one has a heated hose?

Post by Robb » Sat Jan 02, 2021 8:59 am

Discovered this morning that there is a fixed and adaptive setting for the humidity on my Dreamstation. For the past several nights, I have been having issues with condensation in my mask and humidity tank drying out. Started to use a separate room humidifer, but I thought it might take a while to get the right combination of room humidity, Dreamstation temp and humidity. Curious if anyone here uses the adaptive setting or if anyone would discourage using it. Thanks.

Maybe your nose wants more, or less, humidity than the auto setting gives.

My room humidity is only at 35%, so I thought I needed to crank the cpap up.

Give it a try and see what happens.
Bear in mind it might not fix the condensation issue despite the heated hose. It all depends on how cool you keep your bedroom and what you end up needing in terms of humidity to keep your nasal mucosa happy.

My ResMed has an auto setting and I still get condensation in the mask and sometimes the hose even at the auto setting for both hose air temp and humidity. My bedroom just is too cold sometimes for the heated hose on auto to prevent condensation even at the modest setting of auto which equals about the setting of 4 out of 8 on my machine.
My nose really likes a setting of 6 for humidity though if I got to choose. So I end up using 6 and max heated hose temp and sometimes even get some rain out. All depends on how cold the bedroom ends up getting.

Ok, my room is usually at 62 degrees, so maybe the auto setting won’t be sufficient. I came across a sleeve online for hoses today. Is this something that you would recommend? Thanks.

The hose cozy or sleeve won't necessarily be all that much help in preventing condensation with a heated hose but it will help the heated hose maintain the set temperature and not use as much electricity. It won't make the hose air any warmer than the selected hose air temp. Now if you weren't using a heated hose then a different story.

What might be of more benefit is a hose cozy/cover on the short hose from the heated hose to the mask.

Good to know; thanks for saving me a few bucks from purchasing it.
