Battery during power outage- need recommendation

Post by Sevendayslumber » Mon Dec 28, 2020 8:52 pm

Could someone please recommend a backup battery source? Ideally, I’d like for it to support CPAP for 1-2 nights, or 1 night with two CPAP machines simultaneously. Will probably purchase off of Amazon and maybe spend up to around $200. Will need to purchase while it is still 2020 so I can use FSA funds.

Suggestions are much appreciated. My machine is an Airsense10 if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the info. I was actually hoping someone would throw out a couple of suggestions of what to buy, like send me a link via private message or something. I’m running out of time to do a lot of research as 12/31 is approaching quickly.

Not sure you can do it for under 200 and run 2 machines at the same time....a lot will depend on what brand the other machine is and what pressures are being used. The higher the pressures used the greater the battery consumption will be.
And you won't be able to use the humidifier with any heat to it at all and you won't be able to use a heated hose with the heat on....both of which will suck a battery dry in no time.

You for sure will need this for your AirSense 10 machine.....

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... 0-machines

Impossible to tell you which battery might work because we don't know pressures used or the other cpap machine you are wanting to use and it's power draw....and I don't know that I would try to use 2 machines at the same time off one battery.

You could prob do it using a 100Ah battery. The down side is the battery will be heavy ie. ~63#. If that is two heavy you should consider (2 or 4) 35Ah batteries or jump start batteries. The reason for more than 2 is I don't know your ultimate goal(s) but more than 2 will give you the ability to charge one while using another. Most of this will require some technical and wiring knowledge. If that is not you consult a friend to help.

For price you will have to research that when you decide which way you want to go. It will likely be over $200 but you could do some this year and the rest in Jan.

Not sure what 12/31 has to do with it, but,

buy one (or more) 35ah mobility scooter batteries, a battery tender, and the 12 volt adapter for your particular CPAP.

stuff it all in a battery box, and you'll get around 5 night per 35ah battery. (without heated humidification)

We always have a battery in our garage that becomes my back up battery in the event of a power outage. It might be a battery from our boat, maybe a trolling motor battery, might be a car battery. We keep them charged and I grab one when it's needed. I have the adapter that Pugsy lists above. I've used it a couple times and it last me all night with humidity. That adapter also works for use in the car during road trips. I tend to nap during long road trips.

I'm not certain that buying batteries and chargers is something that FSA will allow, maybe, maybe not, needs checking by the OP.

I think it depends on each employer's FSA account setup restrictions. Some are actually fairly liberal and will even cover OTC stuff used for medical reasons. They could very well consider a battery setup to be used with medical equipment like the cpap...as a covered expense and thus reimburse for it.

I've got a pretty liberal FSA and already have a letter of medical necessity in place. both machines are AirSense 10s. If what I get only powers one of the machines, hubby will have to fend for himself. :p
