Airfit F30
Airfit F30
I have not worn a full face mask before but I am researching them now that I'm having trouble with mouth leaks. I have a small face and I am a side sleeper. Can anyone who uses the F30 tell me if it stays in place and works without leaks when you are side sleeping? Or if anyone has a better recommendation? I use the P10 now and it seals pretty well. Would I use the same size in the F30? Thank you.

I have no experience with the F30 at all but the sizing for a nasal pillow is going to be different from any other mask so I suggest you go to the link above and print off the template and actually measure with it just to make sure and get a close idea what size might be needed.
Nostril opening sizes might not relate to overall face or nose size. It wouldn't be impossible for someone needing a large because of nose size to have peanut size nostril openings.
Full face masks can be worn in all sleeping positions though...side and even stomach sleeping. Just sometimes more challenging and usually because of the bed pillow pushing on the mask. So a lot depends on the bed pillow and where the mask rests. A lot of FFM users sort of sleep on the edge of the bed pillow so the mask doesn't come in much contact with the pillow or the mattress.
Others opt to use one of those cpap special pillows with cut outs for where the mask rests to avoid or limit contact pressure points.
I did trial the DreamWear full face mask a while back...it's very similar to the F30 and I am primarily a side sleeper and I had no particular issues with leaks because of side sleeping...and I don't use a special bed pillow with cut outs or anything like that.

Re: Airfit F30
this isn't what you asked and feel free to tell me to buzz off, but there are ways to stop the mouth leaks with a p10.
this link shows how-

i've been using jay's system for oh i think maybe four years. works a charm and pretty darn cheap when comparing it to the cost of a new mask.
whatever you do, good luck!

Re: Airfit F30
I am relatively new to CPAP. However, I do have an airfit F30. I started with an F20 but moved to the F30 as I needed to wear a dry eye mask and needed the lower profile. I find that the way the mask fits under the nose with the air holes does leak a bit when I roll over. That said I have very leak rates and they do not bother me. The f20 had less leaks and was easier to get into position.

Thanks for the help, all!
Zonker, I have one of those headbands around here, I'll try that tonight, thanks!
Pugsy, are you liking the Bleep DreamPort? Does it seal pretty well?

Re: Airfit F30
I have been using the Bleep a little over 2 years now...so yes...I love it.
And as long as I do my skin prep like I am supposed to, it seals perfectly and never comes loose. Now when I get lazy and cheat...it has been known to come loose but that's my fault because I know when I cheat. Facial oils will eventually cause it to loosen during the night and when I don't clean my face properly...I get some facial oils that cause a problem. When I do my usual routine...wash with hot soapy water, rinse well and then use my alcohol for finishing wiping down the nose area....it won't come loose.
I will even add some moisturizer after the washing but I just avoid the nasal area where the Bleep attaches.
Now I sometimes will briefly do a bit of mouth opening and get a little leak from that aspect but it's never for very long and it doesn't wake me up and I simply don't care.
Here's what I normally will see as a leak report. Doesn't get any better than this one.

Pugsy, that is really impressive. How quiet is the Bleep?
I think I need to try this mask. If I can make the scunci idea work, this could be a good combination. No mask lines on my poor face!

Re: Airfit F30
Actually pretty much silent as long as the vented air doesn't bounce off something but that's hard to keep from happening which is why I use the little diffuser thing. Before the diffuser was offered I just stuck a ResMed filter up by the vent holes to diffuse the venting.
The diffuser thing...I call it a bikini thong because that was my first through through my mind when I saw it for the first time.
It takes very little filter material to diffuse the vent well enough.
Before the Bleep I used the ResMed AirFit P10 which is also silent because it has diffused vent holes. A lot different from the vent holes on most of the traditional full face masks or actually other nasal masks.
If you can make the scunci or something similar work for you....it's sure worth at least trying. Maybe with time you might be like me and not do much mouth breathing and if you do it's just a little bit and you can do like I do..shrug your shoulders and not worry about it.
My leak lines aren't always perfect but most of the time they are and when they aren't it's usually because I have rolled over onto my back and my mouth drops open. It's never for very long though because I can't stay on my back for very long because it makes my back hurt like hell. I figure 15 minutes of maybe some mouth breathing out of 7 or 8 hours of sleep...not the end of the world.
I learned a long time ago that doing extraordinary things to keep my mouth totally and always sealed...caused me more sleep problems than 15 minutes of big leak might cause. I did the taping thing for a while...not horrible but it was annoying and caused more wake ups than it fixed mouth opening problems. I absolutely hate full face masks and I sure am not going to go trying to wear one for 15 to 30 minutes of mouth breathing leaks that don't wake me up. My sleep is already fragile from being an old woman with a bad back and lots of pain.
My main goal has always been to get some decent sleep first. It's never been about getting perfect leak graphs or low AHI numbers because low numbers and perfect leak lines don't guarantee decent sleep and if I don't sleep well...I don't feel good no matter how good the numbers might look. So I learned to accept maybe a little imperfection in numbers or graphs as a trade off for sleeping more soundly and feeling better.
For many, many years I used to tell my husband to help me figure out how to tape the nasal pillows to my nose so that I could ditch the headgear. I have always found any headgear annoying...it slides around for one thing and that causes leaks and the straps would cause dents in my cheeks and then bags under my eyes because the straps constricted the fluid dispersal and that causes the bags under the eyes. Even if I used strap covers...they helped but didn't totally eliminate the bags or the dents.
When I first saw the Bleep I realized that someone finally had done pretty much what I had been asking my husband to help me do.
Glue the damn mask to my nose so I didn't have to use headgear. I had to wait 2 years after I saw the first Bleep before I could get my hands on it. I knew I was going to love it...there was never any doubt in my mind.
I have a monstrous review thread if you get bored and want to do some reading. Lots of hints in it as well along with various experiences of others.

Is it for everyone? Of course not. It's like all masks...some lovers and some haters. Is it perfect? Probably not but it's pretty darn close and the things that could stand maybe some improving are being worked on. There's going to be a next generation version but Stuart (who came up with this idea) doesn't have the deep pockets like ResMed or Respironics or other mask makers and what with Covid...it's going to take time to get the money for production of the next generation which also has to go through all the usual research and development stuff. The hose has already been improved upon...longer and more flexible...and the problem with the venting (which is an issue for some but not others) has been fixed with the release of the diffuser bikini holder. He's now working on an easier way to attach the ports but that's going to take some time to get all that sorted out.
Main drawback still yet is DMEs not wanting to sell it. Insurance will pay for it just like any other nasal mask but DMEs just don't want to get on board. It's pricey out of pocket for sure but people are doing it and there are some online DMEs who will supply it and actually file insurance for you and all you pay is your co pay. Not a lot yet but there are some.

Aeroflow just came on board a few months ago...and they will file insurance for you if your insurance will work with them.
Some of the business listed at the link will file insurance...some are out of pocket cash based sales.
Should you end up giving it a try and need some help or have questions...just send me a note. If I can't help then I can get you in contact with Stuart and he will try to help. He has been a cpap user for over 20 years so he knows first hand how all this stuff works.

did the scuncis work for you?
also, you can put bleep in the forum search box and get lots of input from forum members. it seems to be the new thing and a few people love it.
