I get my cpap supplies from a company in Tennessee. They have asked for a new RX, which I think Medicare does every couple of years. It has been about 3 years since I have a sleep study so I contacted the place I had my last one done and they are not doing sleep studies any longer. I contacted a couple of others and got the same answer. I can only sumise that this is because of the dreaded covid-19.
I understand medicare will cover a in home sleep study. Has anyone taken one of these? Did your insurance cover the cost?
I saw one on the internet the other day that said all I had to do was submit some information and they would find out if my insurance would cover the test, send me the test kit, and would send the test results once read by a sleep doctor but I can't remember where I saw it.
I would appreciate any inputs or names of places to contact.

Re: In Home Sleep Study
A new RX isn't the same as a new sleep study. Even Medicare doesn't require a new sleep study.
All you should need is a new current RX or prescription for cpap equipment written by any doctor. Doesn't have to be a sleep doctor.
Your PCP or dentist or NP or PA can write the order for equipment.
Most RX for cpap equipment are written with no expiration date but some DMEs have implemented their own "need a new RX every 12 months" as part of their in house policy. Or maybe your RX did expire....
At any rate...you shouldn't need another sleep study and if you are on Medicare they probably would say you don't need it unless you are having unusual problems and they might not want to pay for it unless there is a documented need.
Medicare will pay for home sleep studies though...as long as they meet certain diagnostic criteria.
As for those online places that will do home studies like you asked about...I have zero experience with them so I can't offer much.
I am on Medicare...diagnosed in 2009. I had one sleep study to diagnose back in April 2009 and that's the only diagnostic sleep study I have ever needed to have to get my cpap sleep supplies.
Now maybe the supplier just wants a new current prescription for the cpap supplies.
It would be extremely unusual for Medicare to want a new sleep study as they wouldn't want to spend the money unless you were having problems and really needed it.

Re: In Home Sleep Study
I have been a CPAP patient for six weeks. My HMO cancelled in house sleep studies. I came in and picked up a monitor for my finger and dropped it off the next morning. They were able have a machine ready for me with the right RX from that monitor. I am sure many other clinics tec. are doing the same thing.

There is no way they could determine an optimum pressure by monitoring your oxygen level during the night. They probably gave you a machine with the pressure set for 4 to 20 which is the factory setting. What kind of machine did they give you?Meditator wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 6:14 pmI have been a CPAP patient for six weeks. My HMO cancelled in house sleep studies. Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.
