New Bleep user has a couple of questions
I started using the Bleep mask two nights ago after using the P10 for the last four years. Even though my sleep is pretty good, I'm always trying for better. I have a lot of wake-ups during the night, possibly from leaks, or maybe I'm just a light sleeper--who the heck knows. However, both today and yesterday morning after waking up, I experienced a visual or aural migraine (where it looks like a kaleidoscope is twirling around in front of your eyes), something I've had in the past, but never from using cpap. Is there any possible reason that the Bleep (maybe from the extra pressure due to no leakage) would cause this? I've got my machine on Apap with pressure set at 7-12 which has been working well. Should I try lowering the pressure to 6-12??
Another problem I'm having with the Bleep is connecting the ports. I have to use considerable pressure to get the ports locked in and I never hear a click, like you're supposed to. I can't get my ports to point straight down from my nose--they kind of go off at an angle. I've watched "Lanky Lefty" and read the instruction booklet, but maybe I'm missing something. Is there a way to get those ports pointed straight down and not angle out? It seems to make it hard to hook up. When I finally think I've got them locked in and turn on the machine, I get a "whooshing" leak sound, usually out of the right side, for some reason. I'm not sure if it's from the port or the joint above the filter, but after I apply more pressure to the port, it stops. At least, last night it did, but the first night, I woke up to that whooshing sound and had to monkey with it to get it to stop. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong (probably) of if something on the mask is defective.
Other than that, I like it a lot and hope I can make it work. Any help is appreciated!

Re: New Bleep user has a couple of questions
Can't help with the migraine part. I had one visual migraine and thought i was having a stroke! I will suggest you look at data if you can. On my system the bleep did not cause the apap to adjust upward as much as my prior mask.
I'm going to suggest you take a dream port and attach it without putting the port on your nose. You could even use last nights if you had it handy. You should see that if you insert the port straight in to its holder is pretty easy and it will click (there's actually 4 separate clicks but sometimes they overlap). However if it's slightly off, insertion is hard and it's very hard to get it to properly latch.
So it'll take some practice but you'll eventually master it.

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: New Bleep user has a couple of questions
Mine never hang straight down....they always angle out a bit but once I attach the hose the weight seems to fix that issue.
I cannot imagine anything regarding cpap, pressure or the Bleep to be the cause of your visual disturbances or the migraine especially since you have had them previously for some reason or other. You could try reducing that minimum pressure a bit and see what happens because that small of a reduction is unlikely to be a problem but I seriously doubt it is the cause of of the problem so unlikely to resolve the problem.
Attaching of the ports and getting those "clicks" does seem to be the most difficult thing to accomplish and even now on occasion sometimes they give me trouble.
Take a couple of the ports and leave them stuck to the paper and just practice attaching them. Take your fingers and plug up the side of the paper with the holes and then blow on the end of the hose. This is a good way to check for leaks and you can actually see your connection. I always have problems looking at the connection in the mirror. I just can't seem to understand things when they are backwards. I don't always hear the clicks either but I have got to the point where I "feel" them more than hear them. This has helped me a lot.
Once you have the ports on your nose and then attach the frame/hose part put end of the hose in the palm of your hand and try to breathe. If things aren't attached properly you will be able to breathe and most likely hear it and then you know it probably needs to be re-attached.
Watch the videos here to see if maybe you are missing a little step or maybe see something different you could do to make it easier.

Re: New Bleep user has a couple of questions
Thank you everyone. Pugsy, it just seems like a strange coincidence that I haven't had one of these visual migraines for maybe a year or two and then I got two on consecutive mornings after trying out the Bleep I can't help but think there's a connection, but maybe it's from the melatonin I've recently started using....
And khauser, what are "lady nights?" And how would I use them?

Where did I say that?
Lol, corrected my typo to "last nights" (and left the grammatical error)
Lady nights are something I can only wish for, lol

Re: New Bleep user has a couple of questions
So, I think I have a defective mask. Last night my husband woke me up because of the “whooshing.” I took it off, put on my P 10 back and went back to sleep. After close inspection this morning I saw that one of the little wings on the outside of the catch looked deformed. When I experimented pushing the port into that receptor (is that what you call it?) I saw that, while it clicked in on one side, the deformed side didn’t lock in. It would slide in but easily slide out. Such a tiny little thing would be hard to see if I wasn’t near-sighted! Anyway, I guess I will have to contact Bleep and try to get a replacement. Here’s a picture, but it’s a pretty subtle deformity. I suspect that in the manufacturing process it got damaged and this caused the lock on the inside to move up or inward and become ineffective.

Call Stuart. 919 619 7170
I can't tell from your picture what you are talking about but maybe he can and will either help you sort it out or get you a replacement.
The above is his cell phone....leave a message and your phone number and he will get back with you.

Re: New Bleep user has a couple of questions
Just talked to Stuart and we worked it out. He’s sending me a new mask which he’s personally examining to make sure there’s no defects, and I got a good lesson in how to put on the ports so they hang straight down. He’s great! Thanks, Pugsy! You’ve come to the rescue once again.
