I once read that the main difference in cats and dogs is: dogs try to please you and cats tolerate you. Over the years, we have had both and I have found this to be true in most cases. We did have one cat that really enjoyed being petted and brushed. He was the last one we had. His early life was pretty rough, and we ended up with him.
Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

I have one cat that pays zero attention to me whatsoever until I go bed. Then she immediately comes and lays down by my side and stays there all night long......purrring. Once I get up...I don't exist unless she wants to be fed or let outside.
Another one likes to come and sit on the arm of the couch and scream at me to pet her and if I don't pet her just the way she wants she slaps (claws out) the hell out of me or bites me. She's a Bengal....her screams are mountain lion quality. I pay attention.

We call her the cat from Hell. The dogs avoid her totally.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

When I first met my wife, her mother had a Siamese cat. When she wanted to play or be petted, you had to play or pet her until she was through. If you walked off before she was through, she would leap and dig all of her claws into your back. Needless to say, I gave her a wide berth.

It's easy to like a dog--they try so hard to please us.
Cats play hard to get, but they have our loyalty anyway.

This is a joke don't anyone actually try this !

It will also promote frequent hand washing...especially the guys BEFORE they go pee.

Warning! Some essential oils will have a similar effect.
Think tea tree oil.
Never get it in/near your eyes--or other mucus membranes.
