New to the forum...I was diagnosed a second time with sleep apnea.

The first time I was put on a BIPAP machine which I purchased in full, didn't require compliance and I eventually stopped using it. I have been on CPAP therapy now requiring compliance for a little over a week and I have noticed two things that seem to be much better. The first is mask size. For the BIPAP I was prescribed a medium-sized mask to 'ensure a good fit'. Also the BIPAP settings were high so that many times I would wake up after a very short time, extremely alert with air blasting in my face. Needless to say the mask ended up on the floor more nights than not.

I have now been prescribed a large mask and I find myself so far waking up with the mask on. And the setting is such that I am waking up refreshed but not overwhelmed by air. Without the aid of therapy I really struggled sleeping, rarely getting an hour or two of sleep at a time. It has gotten better, I have been compliant so far, not perfect by no means. I perform shift work so the nights I work late, therapy is worse than when I have a full night to sleep. As I have read here I also am getting to the 4 hour threshold and find myself waking up refreshed, not wanting to go back to sleep. I assume I am adjusting from the years of little or no sleep.

I have been experiencing mask drooling so far, I've been working with the humidifier setting but it hasn't remedied the issue yet. I assume over time that will get better as well.

This time I am more hopeful therapy will work.

If you had a BiPap that you had paid for....why did you get a CPAP? BiPap can be set to CPAP mode. You wouldn't have had to worry about compliance.

Truthfully I wasn't aware...and I am working with a different doctor now.

Hurts nothing to have a spare machine assuming you still have the BiPap and depending on the model we can probably come up with settings that closely match whatever you end up with the new DreamStation APAP.
