Looking for some guidance

Post by white buffalo » Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:46 am

Hello good people, I’m hoping that maybe you can give me some advice on which to choose. A cpap or a bi-level machine. My backstory is that about 7 or 8 years ago my oncologist sent me in for a sleep study because of high CO levels in my blood, I think. My wife thought it was a good idea since she had been scared enough several times while I was sleeping that she had to shake me to get me breathing again because I had stopped for some period. My study didn’t go very well. Every time I started to doze off, I would pull something loose or off and they would have to hook me back up. I honestly didn’t think I ever slept any that night, but they diagnosed me with moderate obstructive apnea. Because of my lack of sleep they never got to put me on a machine other than fitting me with different types of masks. They wanted me to come back for another night to get me set up with the machine. With my insurance the 1st night was $2000.00, and the 2nd was going to be the same. Well I couldn’t afford the 2nd visit at the time so they were going to call me in 6-8 months and set me another appointment. I never got a call and I forgot about it until about 14 months later. When I called them they said since it had been over a year since my 1st visit, I had to start all over. It was so very frustrating! Fast forward to now. I still snore and I still have periods of stopped breathing while sleeping. Now I don’t have insurance, and I’m not old enough to be eligible for Medicare. After going down a rabbit hole of reading here on this forum, I think I might try to purchase a used machine and try to set it up myself, hopefully with some help.

I would be scouring the used market for a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet or a ResMed S9 AutoSet.

Thanks chicagogranny, from my research it seems Resmed is the most recommended for sure. I will look at the models that you recommended.

Thanks Palerider, I just ordered a machine from LSAT here on the forum so I will probably be asking for some help soon.

Thanks to LSAT here on the forum, I now have a Resmed 10 Airsense Auto. The 1st night I didn't get a lot of sleep with a unfamiliar thing blowing air strapped down on my face. The 2nd night went better. I would like to post my Oscar results and see if some of the very knowledgeable experts here could examine them and give me their opinions. Thanks!
