Shortness Of Breath

Post by kddad100 » Fri Sep 25, 2020 6:03 pm

I have extreme shortness of breath NOT from my cpap. The doctors are not sure what the cause is at this point. It seems like it is very hard to breath at times with the machine on. They have adjusted the pressure a few times but I am still having the same issue. I have read that some people have a side effect from their machine sometimes, I am just wondering if anyone already has the SOB which makes using the machine harder and what you may have done to help. Thank you so much for any ideas. Very much appreciated.

Have you been Covid tested?

Sometimes exhaling is harder for people so depending on your machine, there is probably a feature you can set to help with that... but why don't you have an Apap?

Extreme shortness of breath means you should be going to the emergency room so they can do a workup and try to find the route cause of the problem, whether that be infection, heart, lung or whatever other problems.

I had a bronchoscope That showed I had severe collapse of trachea and bronchi. It took 10 yrs of progressing to not being able to walk until a new pulmonologist decided to take look. Ask about that test if it continues.

Shortness Of Breath

Post by Scluvsrain » Sat Sep 26, 2020 7:05 am

I developed shortness of breath - a mild case - shortly after I began CPAP therapy a little over two years ago. It hasn’t gotten worse, but it hasn’t improved, so last week at my annual physical, I told the doctor about my symptoms. So far he’s run blood, chest X-ray, and done a stress test and EKG and all is fine.

I also do CrossFit 4 times a week and walk a lot. I feel really good other than not being able to get a good deep breath on a regular basis.

I tolerate the CPAP very well.

Your comment about collapsed trachea has me worried now.

A feeling that it is hard to exhale while using CPAP is not the same as shortness of breath.

There are a few here, but once you get to know them, they are somewhat charming in a quirky way.

Anxiety is a possibility, as it manifests in physical symptoms and actually is a cause of many medical workups that result in no answers.

I have considered anxiety as a possibility. Not sure what to do about that if that’s the case, though.

I agree with what others have said here about the importance of a good mask for your face shape, etc. And a hose buddy was a game changer for me to get that hose up off my neck, etc.
