Full face mask fit issues
Full face mask fit issues
Does anyone have recommendations for a full face or hybrid mask that doesnt leak? I have tried the Amara and the Amara view. The Amara leaks at the side of the nose bridge and the view leaks at the nose. Respiratory therapist says she doesnt know what I want because they only stock Respironics. The mask is causing severe nadal, teeth, lip, and gum dryness which the dentist isnt happy with. I have worn a small in every mask so far if that matters.
Re: Full face mask fit issues
Hi, maybe it's time to try a different size, whether or not it seems counterproductive, and maybe time to add something like a Padacheek.com 'liner' that not only keeps marks off your face, but helps a lot with leaks. And always try FFMs on lying down because your face changes a lot then, vs sitting up.

Re: Full face mask fit issues
It's often the case that the problem is not the mask, but it is how the mask is used. Here are some tips:kls278 wrote:Does anyone have recommendations for a full face or hybrid mask that doesnt leak?
To reduce unintentional mask leak -
- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)
- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)
- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.
- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.
- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.
- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.
Note: Links to just some of the mask manufacturers' instructional videos can be found on the forum host's website - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks.php
Re: Full face mask fit issues
unless you glue it to your face, *any* mask will leak at times. none are perfect, and FFMs leak the worst, because there's a larger sealing area. do what Granny suggested.kls278 wrote:Does anyone have recommendations for a full face or hybrid mask that doesnt leak?
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

Return insurance for that mask is $48.07 right now.
My suggestion: try a mask liner with the mask you already LIKE.
Pad a Cheek sells these for your mask, (reusable, washable, and soft.)

Re: Full face mask fit issues
I tried the ResMed Mirage Liberty ™ Full Face Mask
That is a more expensive hybrid mask like the one linked above.
I couldn't stand it myself. It took a lot of work to get it aligned properly with the nose pillows in the nose and then the mask around the mouth.
It had a quick disconnect and the idea was once you had it on and set you don't take it off if you get up during the night to use the bathroom.
I wake a few times during the night and need a drink of water because of dry throat and the mask had to come off.
It was hard to get back on in the middle of the night in those cases.
I tried using a straw to drink water and keep the mask on but it also leaked sometimes and just did not work out for me.
Right now I alternate between the dreamware, Wisp and Amara Gel full face. It's hard to find the perfect mask and I have not been able to do it.

I've used that mask and was able to take medication and drink from a cup without removing the mask. The bottom clips are unfastened first. They are easy to refasten. I did all this without turning on a light - the light from the machine display was sufficient.jtravel wrote:It had a quick disconnect and the idea was once you had it on and set you don't take it off if you get up during the night to use the bathroom.

Hi, how do I find out about the Medicare Suppliers mentioned in your signature line. I entered my zip code of 27587 but nothing happens.chunkyfrog wrote:Return insurance for that mask is $48.07 right now.

Avi, there are several steps.
Ener your zip code, hit "Go", select "Cpaps, Rads, and related . . ."
Then go to the lower right corner, and hit the green button ("Search").
Then hit "Show all Results" above the blank space.
I tried it, and only got one result inside your zip code.
You can then go to the long box to the right under Modify Results,
and change "in zip code" to a distance.
Click the "Update Results" button at the top of that box, and hit "Show all Results" in the big box.
Ten miles gives three choices.
Look for the green "M"; these providers have a contract with Medicare
to accept the allowable amount as full payment---NO UPCHARGES!

Active Health Care provider which is #2 on the above list dumped me about 2 years ago by transferring my name to Nationwide Medical, Inc, located in Agoura Hills, Calif, on the West Coast while I live in the East Coast. I bet that Active Health Care did it for money. Active Health Care took care of me during the first few years when I rented a CPAP from it under Medicare. But later, it got rid of me (us) by selling my name to Nationwide. How do I transfer to a local provider allowing me to go there and try masks, for example?

That, my good sir, would be a question for Medicare.

Re: Full face mask fit issues
I understand you very well. Especially now during the pandemic, it is literally impossible to find a good mask, because in one is impossible to breathe, another is of poor quality, and the third is simply huge and poorly protects. My friend advised me to visit this site Pandemic Pal. There are really a variety of masks ( there are even for the deaf or for people with chronic diseases) . And most importantly, this site saves a lot of time because all the masks presented on the site are on sale and you do not have to search for additional information or search for masks in different stores and pharmacies.

are you deliberately conflating face masks used during the covid-19 pandemic with cpap face masks?JessyJ wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 1:05 pmI understand you very well. because the thread isn't about the former.

Might not be deliberate, simply ignorant that Cpap masks have nothing to do with (let alone look or work like) Covid masks!
