Resmed S8 Autoset Spirit vs Vantage

Post by pedroski » Sat Dec 30, 2006 1:27 pm

I have a Resmed S8 Autoset Spirit, is this the same machine as the RESMED S8 AUTOSET VANTAGE? I live in Australia and wondered if they are just different names for the different markets, they seem to be the same otherwise?

Yep - Resmed decided they needed to identify the markets machines had gone into (as it affects the warranty). They had tried (I believe) color coding the machines but in 2005 opted to used different model names.

The issue they were grappling with is supplying distributors in the US who then ship the machines to customers in Australia (or other countries). They were concerned about them (Resmed) being left holding the baby when people who didn't understand that their warranty applied only in the original country, took a machine back to get fixed in the country it had been shipped to.

This is not an uncommon problem for any company that ships internationally. Sony being an electronics consumer supplier solved the problem by issuing an international warranty. Resmed are not really in an easy position to do that.
