cpap titration during covid

Post by johnspartan » Mon Aug 31, 2020 12:20 pm

Hello CPaptalkers.

I am concerned about getting titrated for Cpap at my provider's office. I had a sleep study back in June and I felt pretty comfortable having it done as it was just me and the one sleep tech in the lab. For this they tell me there may be myself and one other patient with the tech.

While I should probably be concerned about ventilation, I feel like every sleep study I've ever done has been in a room in various labs where the filtration seemed pretty great, as I have had lifelong allergies. However, I know that they're not just going to use brand new masks and hoses and machines with me, they resuse them for each patient. I've been told that for the masks & hoses they first disinfect in some kind of bleach solution for a while, and then disinfect again with a vinegar solution.

I feel like I could maybe get together some $$ and tell them to just give me a variety of brand new masks, which I would just keep, but that wouldn't solve the problem of the pap machine disinfection itself.

Am I being overly paranoid?

Thanks!

Covid is easily killed on surface objects.

As for the machine needing disinfection...wiping it down on all outside surfaces with disinfectant is all that is needed. There is zero way for Covid to get into the insides of the machine or water chamber.

Why do you need the Sleep Study if you just had one in June....Your provider has his own Sleep Lab??? Seems like you have had several..Seems excessive. I had 1 in 12 years.

Yes the provider has their own lab. Several I think? Anyway my understanding is the they'll be titrating me for cpap, it's unclear exactly how much 'study' will be done polysomnographically, but they will be doing it in there.
