Re: Apneas after a sigh
Minor sleep disturbance--probably the moment a demon slipped in to check out your naughty self.

In response to your questions Pugsy. As far as meds, a small dose of BP med twice a day, a statin and a small dose of clonazepam at bedtime to help with falling sleep. Maybe that's not really "helping" with breathing/quality of sleep? No other specific health issues other than not feeling all that well rested every day. Definitely sounds like spontaneous arousals. Lmk if you would want to see other reports or info from Oscar. Sorry to hear of what you're dealing with, hoping for you that things get better!

Actually some meds can make sleep quality worse and statins are a common culprit as well as my own little BP med which is an ace inhibitor.SQD2020 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 7:57 amIn response to your questions Pugsy. When we have a lot of spontaneous arousals we have what is called sleep maintenance insomnia. Now I know we need the meds so not taking them isn't a viable option either so we are kind of damned if we do and damned if we don't.
But at least we have a decent idea why our sleep is far from ideal and sometimes that helps us accept things and we can move on from expecting the machine to fix a problem it was never designed to fix in the first place.
Medications sometimes just make us sleep "lighter" and more likely to experience spontaneous arousals for whatever reason.
If you want further review of your own breathing patterns maybe start a thread of your own if you are unsure of what you are seeing.

While the videos are mainly talking about central apneas that are arousal/awake related....false positives can be in any category and not limited to centrals. I have seen false positive or arousal related OAs and hyponeas. Pretty much all my AHI numbers are at least 75% arousal related. A couple of months ago I had a night with AHI of 9.4. It was a nice mix of all the 3 categories and not just centrals. Way higher than my normal 1 to 2 AHI of which 75% is always false positives. I took the time to go through the entire night's flow rate and 90% of the flags were obviously arousal related. It was also a night that I just slept poorly and remembered a lot of awakenings and tossing and turning due to pain. I had over done things that day.
Too much outside work in the garden kind of thing and I paid for it.
