lip tape

Post by champak2001 » Thu Jul 23, 2020 3:10 pm

My left side lips open up at night with higher pressure and cause leak, when I use ny nasal mask. ( was not a problem before, but I beleive with some dental work it changed??) Full face masks do not seem to work well. If i put a paper tape on my lips, then it seem s to work but I am worried about any problems or glue toxicity? Are there any safe products or solutions?

3M micropore tape... at most drugstores (but you should ask as it may not be with other medical ones).

2" micropore. Ebay has it, not sure about stores.

I have yet to find anything that removes all the sticky adhesive from my face.

If all else fails and you or similarly troubled readers are willing to apply drastic measures, consider use of Silipos Gel-E-Roll sealing as I described here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=177011&p=1323185#p1323185. For me, it works without fail. The seal clings to the skin when kept from falling off by a retainer: maybe a Scunci or stronger provision like my first DIY thing in the picture. The seal does not adhere to skin at all like tape does, but, with mild pressure against washed skin, it does not slip unless there is too much facial hair inside the frontal contact area.

An aside with detail about effectiveness of that seal and collar:

The "Deluxe"? chin strap pictured in that post was soon abandoned when I began using a soft cervical collar. The combined benefits, from the Silipos seal and C-collar (along with other equally drastic measures that have stopped my preference for supine sleep) have enabled much better sleep.

I've long seen a sharp reduction of RDI, from nearly 60 in the fall of 2015, to my 3-month AHI average of 0.1, 12-month+ average of 0.2. Those numbers are for a too-long-incorrigible mouth breather who fled from leaking FFMs and has long used P-10 nasal pillows, sometimes a Bleep--neither of which masks can be used successfully by mouth breathers according to conventional xPAP wisdom.

(I'm fortunate that my main problem was OSA, but I'm still working on FL--"fl" I might say, the range of sizes and deformations of tiny dents, forks and chipped peaks of my baseline inhale flow rate curves that morph into instances of the machine-noted FL which the VAuto greatly reduces. I posit that those fl and FL account for mini-"rera" or "sub-rera" that trigger or grade upward into FL, RERA or OSA, preventing truly fully restful sleep for me and the many who report very low AHI---0.0 to 0.5, for example.)

To the OP: micropore tape is hypoallergenic and contains no latex; it is used in medical settings. To ASB, I'm so glad you posted about your method! I use Somnifix strips but am interested in a less expensive solution. I just order a roll of Silipos and will give it a try.
