Swift FX Replacement Straps.

Post by Marvinator » Tue Jul 21, 2020 9:19 am

Long time member, first time poster. I use an Airsense 10 with the Swift FX Nose Pillows and have for several years.

Recently, my Swift FX strap had stopped working in that the velcro fastener ends could no longer hold well and kept slipping. So, I did some research and bought a couple online. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y4 ... UTF8&psc=1) They lasted less than a couple of weeks before the three layers started separating. Currently, I'm planning a dual attack on the issue. :? 1) I'm going to try and glue the three layers back together on the replacements and see if I can get some better use out of them. 2) and the one I think i will end up with, is buying some 5/8" velcro and making my own.
I"m frustrated with this and am wondering if anyone else had trouble with the strap not holding and how you may have fixed it. :D

Those straps you found are generic aftermarket straps...it doesn't surprise me that they failed on you.
The real deal ResMed straps obviously hold up a lot longer. Unfortunately I think ResMed quit offering that strap as a stand alone product.
I know long ago I was looking for it and couldn't find it as a stand alone product. When it was first released the strap was offered all by itself but somewhere along the line ResMed quit...probably to force people to buy the entire frame headgear package.
And of course the entire silicone frame part...will last forever and doesn't need to be replace but ResMed makes more money if they sell the frame and strap package.

You might be better off trying a skinny strip of velcro glued onto the original FX strap (over the now non sticky velcro). That's how I fixed mine back when I was using the Swift FX. Went to WalMart and got a skinny velcro package and glued the 2 pieces over the old non sticky velcro.

Use hot melt glue--it's amazing!

Unless you get it on your finger. Don't ask how I know.

And no, I don't have the 'safer' version ... I have a full strength 'professional' hot melt gun. Got tired of the glue failing...

Hope you didn't go picking your nose with that stuff on your finger. You would look quite funny going around all day with your finger stuck up your nose.

Anyway...I just used the super glue stuff. It held well enough for my needs since normally I don't undo and re do the velcro portion much which is of course accelerates the velcro losing it's sticking powers.
Oh...you don't want to get super glue on your fingers either and for sure don't go picking your nose if you do...don't ask how I know.
That crap hurts when you yank out the nose hairs.

I kinda figured on Swift not wanting to sell parts. Thanks.

I have worked with hot glue and know it dries too stiff to be used in fabric that will be on teh back of my head. I"ll try my two efforts first, and report back.

THANKS again!

You can buy these Velcro straps at Walmart. It's a little long but just double it back over itself. It will last forever.

I use to wear the Swift FX mask and it is a great pillow mask, When I had mine I would just leave the setting as pre determined and pull off the whole thing off the face in that way you are not using the Velcro so many times and then make the odd adjustment as needed as when it stretched(less times pulling it apart was my thought). If you want to keep them from moving just sew a few stitches in to help the Velcro keep its place. I would still be using the FX mask if the exhaust defuser was like the P10 nasal mask.
I still have a swift FX for a back up when travelling or having issues with the P10.

You know there is a way to marry the P10 pillow/frame/diffuser and the Swift FX headgear. I have done it.
It requires a bit of surgery and fiddling with the little arms on the P10 up through the Swift FX headgear but it can be done.
Then you just cover your surgery and fiddling with a strap cover.
If you want to try it. I have some pictures some where I can hunt up and share with you...or I did post that experiment in a thread a while back and I could try to find it.

Sure, We might all learn something, I kind of recall someone making modifications to the FX head band ! It has been a while.

Give me a bit to see if I can find that thread. The forum search function sucks and I have a lot of posts to search through even with using the search function.

Here's the thread...pictures down near the bottom but I see photobucket is being a PITA since I won't pay them to host my images.
They didn't used to do that. When Photobucket did that to me and wanted me to pay $400 a year I told them to go screw themselves. Let me go see if I can get fresh pictures so you can see more clearly. Give me a bit.

viewtopic/t105687/Airfit-p10-Vs-Swift-F ... y&start=15

Anyway you take the stretchy headgear off the P10 and you wind the little plastic arms through the little holes in the Swift FX headgear up along the sides. Now I didn't cut off the little arms because I wasn't planning on permanently altering it but a person could cut them off.
Then you anchor the little arms to the side of the Swift FX headgear with something. I just used the side strap covers that came with the Swift FX since I had them handy but a person could also use some tape as well.

I call it like I see it. It all comes down to the wording you put into it. It's like using a dictionary to figure out spelling...hell if I knew how to spell it I wouldn't need the dictionary would I. The forum search won't even search for anything with less than 4 letters in the search parameters. Totally sucks but like I always say...it is what it is and not much we can do about it except bitch about it which I do quite often.

Okay....better pics attached. I think you all can get an idea what I did. What you want to do with the little arms is up to you.
I was okay leaving them long and just securing them with the side strap covers.
