Cool Air

Post by DAYMX5 » Sat Jul 18, 2020 9:48 am

During the summer months I would like cool air coming through my cpap. I have a Resmed 10 and I turn off the heater and the heated hose.
Would there be any down side with putting the reservoir & water in the freezer during the day and then inserting it into the unit at night? Or possible freezing some distilled water in ice cube trays and using them.

I would not put it in the freezer. Resmed tanks are easy leakers at best.

Pugsy has recommended using ice cubes in the tank. So I would say that is the best solution. :D

I wouldn't put the humidifier in the freezer, at night after putting water in it and the heater comes on, it will be back to operating temperature in no time at all. The added expansion/contraction of going from freezer to heat daily are likely to put pressure on the glue joints and cause it to wear out soon.

I don't any problem with putting some ice cubes in the tank. I wouldn't bother with making the ice cubes out of distilled water. Distilled is a cleaning convenance and not a medical necessity.

The problem is cooling water the water is forming on the outside of the cool tank and running into the guts of the xpap and water heater causing corrosion.

The best solution is a bedroom A/C, I keep my bedroom at 65 to 67 degrees year around. Covers to keep me warm as needed. I don't use a HH anymore. Jim

I admit I did not consider that possibility. Just like a glass of ice tea on a hot summer day. :D

You don't need to consider it.

Yes, warm (humid) air on a cooler surface can condense the moisture into liquid, but that's not a problem with the AirSense humidifier tanks. All but one side are within the machine. There is very little air flow and air access to most of the tanks sides. There is simply not enough air (and moisture) to condense back into liquid against the sides of the tank.

Good to know. :D

What works for me in the summer is:

Use air-conditioner
Set on manual
Set hose temp. just below room temp.
Find heater level that gives me just enough humidity for comfort (not one level higher!)

No ice.

In the winter I set on auto and let er' rip. :D

My nap machine:

No humidifier just a side plate.

The ice cube trick has been around for years. I have never tried it myself. I want LOTS of added moisture and I know I have to have heat to the humidifier to get it so I quickly learned to accept the fact that I couldn't always breathe nice cool air.

Do NOT put the entire water chamber in the freezer...even if it didn't crack there is chance the seals will fail from expansion and contraction (they can fail even without it sometimes...I had it happen myself) and you get a big mess on your night table, floor and inside your machine.
