Autoset too smooth

Post by Johnb69 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:03 pm

I have been using a VPAP S9 by resmed with Quattro full face mask. I guess I had gotten used to the pressure of the VPAP and I switched to my back up a Resmed S9 Autoset. It seems much more smooth and I don’t get the sense of the pressure at all.

Is there anyway to get my Autoset to blow a bit more? Sometimes I question it being on. Any advice or adjustments I can make to my Autoset S9? I think my body got used to the air blowing almost like it aided me in breathing. Or more likely I just knew it was running versus now the Autoset can be so smooth I’m not sure it is running.

Also I believe my VPAP is way messed up, is it worth sending it to Resmed for a repair price.

Thanks, I hope everyone is doing well.

Need to know exactly what all the settings are on both machines to hazard a guess as to why/what might be causing it to feel different and I assume unpleasant.

He's complaining because there's no unpleasantness... can't believe it's working because it's quiet! Is that a first here  ?

Kinda what I thought as well. Sounds more like he is worried that the difference in how it feels is due to machine maybe ailing which is of course possible but it might also be simply a minor setting difference which could account for why something feels different.
Depending on the settings...the AutoSet and bilevel should feel pretty much the same if everything is equal but I can't tell if everything is equal without knowing all the settings.

All the settings currently being used on both machines in terms of pressure, EPR, PS, mode of use etc.
All available in the clinical setup menus of both machines.

Johnb69, we need more information to address your problem.
  • First, we need to know why you are on a bilevel machine and not an ordinary CPAP / APAP. Do you have very high pressure, or a condition like COPD or central apnea?
  • Which particular model VPAP do you have? There are VPAP S, Auto, Adapt and others. That will be printed on the machine near the power button.
  • What are the pressure settings on your VPAP? These will be things like EPAP minimum and maximum, pressure support and IPAP (varies depending on the model).
  • Finally, what are the pressure settings o your APAP? This will just be maximum and minimum.
If you can provide all of that (or most of it) then we can hazard a guess at what the problem is.
