Still tired/going to the bathroom despite an AHI of 1-2?

Post by tgree » Wed Jul 15, 2020 10:43 pm

I've been using my CPAP for over 3 months now, but I'm still constantly tired, and go to the bathroom the same number of times at night. Is that normal?

Here's my oscar data:

You are on CPAP for 3 years and no improvement ?

Please get a general checkup. Something else might be wrong.

Give some information about your history, medication, accidents, what ever and ask questions.

Increase your max pressure and work on the leaks....Most likely the leaks that are waking you up.

Yes, definitely increase the max pressure - by a lot - it's keeping the min. pressure from rising when needed.

How old are you?
Male or Female?
Do you take any medications of any kind, even OTC? If so, what.
When you get up to pee several times during the night is the bladder full or do just figure "I am awake I might as well go pee".
Do you have to go pee a lot during the day also?

Male, fit, 31, no OTC medicine. I'm sure I'm awake because of apnea because there's barely anything.

Interesting - how can you tell? I set the minimum to be 7.0 (my titration number). My large leak is also at 0.10-0.20%, which seems like it's pretty small, right?

You're probably right, but what's going on is that your body is producing stress hormones that cause bladder irritation ... that is why you feel you have to pee but there's nothing there.
Drinking alcohol can also cause this.
Any number of things going wrong in the body can also do it.
But the graph does say you need changes and if start there unless you are feeling poor other than tired.

The leaks are well within acceptable limits as long as they aren't waking you up. Any leak that wakes us up is unwanted even if it is little because anything that wakes us up is unwanted.

Your maximum of 9....you are hitting it on occasion but not for very long so I doubt that is your main problem.

Actually what I would like to see you change is the mode....right now you are in the For Her mode and lets try the regular auto mode. It's a different algorithm...lets see if it changes the results any.

Need answer to this question as well please.

Next time you post screen shots...go look at this thread for the formatting of graphs...you can get everything we want in one image and save you some work. If we need anything else we can ask.
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html

So the only real change...the mode from the for Her mode to the regular Auto mode. Do you know how to do that?
If not it is explained in this manual.
https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdf
Minimum 7
EPR 3
Max 9 for now but if you see it being hit much we need to increase it. Having it hit the limit could be allowing the airway to close up and cause an apnea event which in turn wakes you up...but in all honesty...I would just suggest opening it up. The machine won't go up without a good reason and having a higher than you need max doesn't affect how the machine responds or anything like that. It will only go up if it thinks it needs to. If reluctant to have it wide open....at least 12 max would be a good compromise. I doubt you will need much more than 11 if even that much.

Thank you so much.

I tried switching modes from Autoset for Her to Autoset normal, and turning my maximum to 12.0, but I'm not feeling much difference, other than the fact that my leak has increased. I've been also taking a slow dissolving melatonin before I go to sleep, because it's hard for me to stay asleep after I wake up.

How long should I try each mode?
