New CPAP user issues
Hi, there hoping you all can help! I am new to using my CPAP which is a Philips Dream Machine. Problem is I have been grinding and clenching my teeth for years. I wake up with pain from it most mornings. The CPAP doesn't seem to be resolving that. I've also tried to use a Sleep Apnea mouthguard to address both the apnea and the teeth clenching/grinding. My jaw HATED the advancements on that device. Question is have any of you seen success combining a grinding mouth guard with the CPAP? This is the guard that just protects for grinding and doesn't advance the jaw. My doc thinks that guard plus my CPAP is the answer. The other option is to simply grin and bear the Sleep Apnea mouthguard that advances my jaw and go all in on that even through the pain until my jaw adjusts. Would love your thoughts, with great appreciation. Thanks so much!

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

This is exactly what I use (regular night guard with APAP)and it works very well for me. Added bonus: the nightguard keeps my mouth from drying out.Steven3467 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 10:18 amHi, there hoping you all can help! I am new to using my CPAP which is a Philips Dream Machine. Thank you both so much...
TropicalDiver, what kind of mask do you use with the mouthguard? I have nasal, but will I need full face mask with the mouthguard?

No, the use of a mouthguard doesn't require a full face mask. The only reason to use a full face mask is either you like it more or you can't find a way to stop mouth breathing, and the mouth breathing is severe enough to bother you or negatively impact your treatment.

Well that is a SUPER helpful answer, thank you so much.
My dentist is telling me the custom grinding guard is really better for me since I clench and grind, but perhaps I should also try the mask with the bite guard you are suggesting?

The Tap Pap is a good mask ... I used it for many years before recently switching to the Bleep. I actually got used to the bite guard and kind of miss it. But I also seem to be accommodating myself to this so I haven't decided to get a dedicated mouth guard yet.Steven3467 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 12:53 pmWell that is a SUPER helpful answer, thank you so much.

I once showed my Tap Pap to my dentist (he was curious) and he told me it should work quite well as a mouthguard. It separates the teeth very effectively, and the surface on which the bottom teeth touch is very smooth.

Re: New CPAP user issues
I will share this. Back when the tap pap mask was released it was attractive to me for 2 reasons...one the lack of head gear obviously and the other was that I was having some TMJ issues from clenching my jaws. So I figured I would give it a try. It did help the TMJ issues quite a bit but I was never a major teeth grinder kind of person.
Might be worth at least trying. Kill 2 birds with one stone kind of thing. I used the Tap Pap for well over a year and then the P10 was released and at the same time I ended up needing some dental work done (old, old fillings came out and needed a repair on a back molar where the guard didn't event touch) so I went to the P10 for a while and liked it so well I didn't go back to the Tap Pap. Mainly out of laziness. The dental work I needed wasn't related to using the mouth guard though....it was the very last molar which is completely untouched by the tap pap mouth guard and it just fell apart from old age filling failure.
