Hi!
I've a relative newbie - have been on CPAP since Thanksgiving. It's amazing how less stressful the season was this year. Sleep is amazing, isn't it?
I noticed last night that the exhaust from my system is constant and doesn't change with inhaling or exhaling. Is that normal? If I take the mask off, there is strong pressure, so I know that pressure is getting into my nostrils. (I tolerate the pillows very well and don't even feel the air going in)
I don't know why I didn't notice this before. I've always known that there was exhaust, but didn't realize it seems constant.
Also, an interesting story from visiting my in-laws for Christmas. We have a king size bed at home, so the hose lays on the bed and doesn't pull. At my in-laws we sleep on a double bed. I'm a big girl. Anyway, my head was at the edge of the bed and the pull of gravity on the hose kept the pillows slipping and leaking. MAN, am I glad to be home!
All help appreciated.

swift nasal pillows exhaust question
Swift Nasal Pillows Exhaust
Peggyb,
I use the swift as well with a resmed S8. Once I've completed my ramp up to cpap pressure, I have quite a bit of exhaust as well. I can notice a slight differince in exhaust pressure when I hold my hand over it as I inhale/exhale. But, it's not a significant difference. I too, breath quite easily once I reach full pressure. The exhaust is completely controlled by the mask design. You will not lose your treatment through the exhaust. It can be noisy though it your hand or the sheet gets near it.

Peggy. When you sleep in a smaller bed, or even in your big bed, you can attach the hose to the bottom sheet or mattress. Just attach a ponytail scrunchie to the mattress with a large safety pin. Run your hose through the scrunchie so it holds the hose to the bed. No more gravity pull on the hose or mask.

Re: swift nasal pillows exhaust question
The constant exhaust flow is necessary with any xPAP mask to draw your exhausted breath out of the mask quickly, so that your are breathing in "fresh" air, rather than rebreathing your previous exhalation.peggyb wrote:I don't know why I didn't notice this before. It's normal and very necessary.
The Swift mask that you have has a very noticeable and audible exhaust flow, while with many other mask it is not so noticeable or audible for a variety of reasons.
Cheers,
Bill

Peggy. The Aura has no exhaust noise. But when you inhale, there is a slight swoosh sound. The exhaust vents up at forehead level and blows out over your head - not at your sleeping partner. And you can pull the covers up over your nose with no exhaust noise - unlike any other mask that I know of.
Both Rested Gal and I (following her) deconstructed our Aura's, meaning we cut all the headgear off it. We secure ours with pantyhose straps. We both toss and turn from side to side with no leaks. It is our favorite mask. Here's a link if you want more info (probably just one of many links):
