Respironics buys Australian DME

Post by offlineon » Wed Dec 27, 2006 4:35 am

This may not be news, or even of interest to many here, but Mayo Healthcare have sold their homecare division to Respironics, effective 1st Jan 2007. Mayo was the agent for Respironics in Australia, selling a range of therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, including xpap machines through their 'SleepEasy' retail outlets. The headquarters for the new Respironics Australia Pty Ltd has been established in Botany NSW.

The Respironics Australia customer service number is 02 9666 4444.

This, imho, may indicate that Respironics has plans to take on ResMed in their home country market. In the US, both companies hold similar market shares. It will be interesting to see how things develop, and what policy changes (if any) will be made towards servicing Respironics products bought from international internet DME's.

Weinmann Australia Enter Australain Market

Post by Sleepertalker » Thu Dec 28, 2006 6:42 pm

A new company Weinmann Australia have entered Australia with a new range of masks and CPAP/BIPAP machines.
They are based in Melbourne 03 9543 9197 .
Their new Yara Full Face mask is apparently excellent and they have high pressure FFM and nasal masks, a first. They have a large share of the market in Europe and Asia.

Hopefully more competion will see better serivce and value for money.

I agree! More competition can only be a good thing!

Has some pretty interesting features and stats, check out the humidifier, how simple can you get, Respironics could probably learn a thing or two about design from these guys. They also have recording software for it. I have no idea if these will ever make their way to the USA, but interesting to view. Looks like they have a FF mask that can go to 30hPa, should be same as 30cm.

Also very quiet at 26dB (A) at 10hPa, think they used 1 meter distance. All mfgs should disclose their noise levels before you buy. In my noise tests because my meter doesn't measure below 50dB, I was only 3-4" in distance away from the machine with the microphone in order to obtain a reading. It was 60-61dB (A) by comparison.

Check out their website, pretty cool stuff (click on English or preferred languange):

ROFL..... the Australian CPAP market is a fraction (less than 5%) of the world market, so there is not much to "take on"!

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Bill,

I thought I had made it obvious that my comment there was intended to be considered relatively parochial in terms of scope. Nevertheless, it seems Respironics is continuing to make small strategic purchases away from it's core competency. So even in global marketing terms, a minor supply chain acquisition like this may be more significant than you might consider. As for local effects, we shall have to wait and see.
