Diet and AHI

Post by Woody » Sat May 30, 2020 9:43 am

In my case I know that when I lose weight my OSA gets better. But in the short term
whenever I go low carb my AHI goes up. Then as counter productive it is in the long term
having ice cream and cookies right before bed makes my AHI that night much better. Oh
in the long term the ice cream and cookies makes my weight go up so my OSA is worse
but that night it helps lower my AHI . Anyone know why this could be hapening ?

Mostly the obstructive component goes up when I go low carb. On the other hand I
haven't pigged out on carbs in perhaps 7 months and don't recall what component
of my AHI went down when I pigged out I know most of us do best not eating close
to bed time but as I said I am the opposite. Does't seem fair the AHI fairy is rewarding
me for bad behavior.

You got a bad fairy.
Ignore what he does--just do the right thing.
He will give up once he realizes you are wise to his nonsense.

I forgot to ask goes to what from what. We've had people post here upset because their AHI "jumped" to 1.0 from 0.6. Ridiculous, eh?

If I am eating normaly my AHI is around 3.5 but nights I eat carbs right before bed my AHI
will tend to be about 2. But start on a low carb diet and my AHI may go up usually to between
6 and 8 but ocasionaly a little higher than that. I actualy noticed this pattern about 7 years ago
so it's not some one time thing.
