Still can’t Exhale

Post by Johnb69 » Wed May 13, 2020 11:39 pm

Machine is a ResMed 9VPAP mask is ResMed Mirage Quattro full face.

I can’t exhale properly at all. The breath cycle is way too long. I’m trying to exhale and it firing air at me. Even when I try to exhale the air overpowers me.

Need some help quickly. Can’t I just go to the “auto” mode some how. My sleep is terrible.

Thanks a bunch

John69

Which particular S9 VPAP model do you have? There are at least four - VPAP Auto, ST, S and Adapt. Each model has its own capabilities and suite of settings. In particular the Auto, S and ST have rise, trigger and cycle controls which affect the time and shape of the inspiration and expiration curves. If you let us know which model you have and what these parameters are set at, somebody can give you more specific advice.

Have you ever been able to blow up a balloon? can you blow bubbles with a straw in a tall glass of water?

All that air the cpap is "firing at" you isn't even enough to blow up a balloon (people have tried), blowing up a balloon takes 2-3 times the pressure a cpap can possibly create.

I would agree, I also would think since I can not exhale against it I’m either crazy or something may be wrong with my pap. That’s what I was trying to figure out.

It's very unlikely that there's anything wrong with your machine, without it throwing error codes.

I know when I first was at a pressure above 7 that it felt difficult to exhale I can now comfortably exhale at a 14 pressure, my lungs and or brain just needed to get used to it, and I did feel kind of panicky when it first happened. I just had to breathe slowly (which was all I felt I could do anyway.) Now if you really can't exhale against the minimal pressure I'd go to the doctor and get your condition checked out. If it just feels difficult and makes you panicky... suck it up... a couple days of breathing agaisnt it will get you used to it.
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

I’m sorry respiration99 and Julie I have been sick. My machine is a VPAP auto. I don’t know my pressure settings. Thank you for your help.
