Still having problems after 5 years on CPAP

Post by w5mtf » Fri May 15, 2020 12:21 pm

What the title said. I have trouble with mask leakage, excessive pressure sometimes at night that almost blows the mask off of my face and wakes me up. Can't sleep much more than hours. I wake up tired.
I have a Resmed S9 with a heated hose and a Respironics Amara View mask. I am a mouth breather and have tried several mask. The Amara View leaks way less than any of the others I have tried.

The doc I was going to closed his practice and I have been to a new doc once.

I do not have the super secret code to change the pressure or the software to download the chip to. I had little or now "training" when I first got the machine. I do not understand the medical abbreviations that the machine generates.
I do notvunderstandxwhy a prescription is necessary to get supplies and why compliance is such a big deal. If I am not compliant who cares?

We all change our pressures and equipment all the time without anyone's permission or oversight - the only time it matters is in the initial ? 3-4-5 mo. period when insurance is deciding to cover you (if that is the case at all) and THEY don't care if you make changes or what they are - all they care about is compliance. Please read about Oscar at the top of the forum - DL it free and follow directions to post results here so others can help interpret it for you. It's terrific, lots better than the mickey mouse apps that come with machines. You can get the clinician menu info from Apneaboard.com for your machine.

if i've told you once, i've told you a million times;don't exaggerate.

you've given us no information to go on. see the link at the bottom of my post regarding "newbies". yes, you aren't new to cpap, but it's going to contain some guidelines you'll need to follow in order to get some advice from the experts here.

one of the first things you can do is go to the profile section and fill in your equipment. that way, it will show up at the bottom of each of your posts as mine does below.

tell us what your pressure settings are.

as to mask leaks, i suggest you go to youtube and look up mask fitting videos, searching for your particular mask.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I used the amaraview for a while but switched to the dreamwear. It’s very similar. All of them need to be changed regularly. The cushion of the mask wears and they leak more and more. I would try to tighten the straps and it would make things worse.
Try changing the cushion.

Good luck.

If you can't tame the leaks of the mask you are using.... then you need to try different masks until you find one that is comfortable and doesn't leak. I went thru a half a dozen masks until I settled with the Resmed F20. It's a popular mask, but what I find comfortable, you may not like. You can only do so much with a mask. Eventually, you give up on it and move to the next one.
