Oscar bookmarks

Post by unidee » Sun May 10, 2020 6:38 pm

Have anybody used Oscar's bookmarks? Bookmark is a note for example when you change mask you can set a bookmark to that day.

And File menu there are Backup journal. This writes bookmarks to xml file in data folder. But the xml file is not readable with common web browser.

So is there any need for xhtml (it is xml too) backup file? Then the bookmarks could be easily readable with web browser and there can be .css styles too.

The bookmarks and notes in Oscar need to be integrated and made available for export in commonly used formats. Quite a lot of thought will be needed to get it right. I'm pretty sure I covered that in the user interface white paper.

This subject has quite little with Oscar 1.1.0 release. I wonder why peope need bookmarks. I placed bookmark when I changed mask. But are there special need to use bookmarks to some purpose. I have coded somethin that journal bakcups are not xml which cant seen with common web browsers. I think that xhtml whould be nice format. So, Oscar user could be able to see his or her bookmarks, notes and so on easily with web browser. But are there some ways to exhange bookmarks and why?

The developers have arranged things according to their needs/choices.
It's what you get for free.

I use bookmarks to flag particular stretches of time during the night, and associate some text with that time block.

For example, say the two minutes around some interesting event.

I'm pretty sure that's the only reason to use them.

Changing a mask or other thing about the night as a whole goes in the note.

Use Post-its, and no--the developers have better things to do than adjust minutiae to suit random trolls.

Chunkyfrog, I think perhaps you don't know that what we've been talking about has in fact been discussed within the development team with a view for implementation in a future release. Both Unidee and myself have been involved in these discussions - in fact I wrote the white paper on the future Oscar UI. I think to dismiss people as trolls without knowing any of the background exposes you to charges of rudeness, at the least. (Not quite sure why Unidee has chosen to raise it here, though).

Respiration99, good to hear you in this thread. I have looked the white paper. But I didn't read it so carefully that I found anything about journals. Why I wrote a message to this forum? I like to receive thoughts from many people. Yes, I want to develop Oscar into a better program. At least by giving tips to coders.Information provided by journals in some common format sounds like a good idea.

Originally, my idea has been to get a journal backup in a readable format. I have talked to Oscar's data backuping. I thought backuping journalists should be done in the same process. And backup so that you could back up annually, monthly or weekly. But it is not an easily organized matter.

I think those notes can be helpful when looking at sleeping over a longer period of time.
