Shortness of breath

Post by MarkAB » Sat May 02, 2020 12:18 am

After 7 years on my Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset, I have developed severe dry mouth when using my Mirage FX nasal mask. I have tried tightening my chin strap to the max but it doesn't help. So I changed to a full face Mirage Quattro. It fits fine and solves my dry mouth problem, but I wake up startled by shortness of breath. I have tried raising my setting from 8 to 10 but no better. Mt doctor is 1,000 miles away and retired and there are no sleep clinics within 200 miles of my remote location. ANyone have a comment on my pressure setting?

See the stickies top of main pg and download Oscar - follow instructions re formatting and posting (leaving out calendar and only posting designated graphs etc) and we''ll help you interpret... it's terrific and very comprehensive software.

Thanks Julie, I managed to get through the night without incident by raising my pressure to 11 using a full face mask. This morning I installed Oscar and, as a layman, I was amazed at the detail and ease of interpretation. If yyou know who the developers are, please send them my gratitude for their efforts. Unfortunately, at 2 in the morning, I forgot to reinstall my S9 so I didn't get any info on last night. I will use it tonight and send you the data tomorrow. Again, many thanks for your attention.

Mark, do you have the right mask setting selected on your machine? It's easy to forget that when starting to use a new mask.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Mark,

When I first started using my Aircurve 10 Vauto I would wake myself up gasping for air. I finally figured out that my machine was moving to exhale while I was still trying to inhale.

One thing you may want to try is to increase the Ti Maximum setting. Ti Max limits the inspiration time for patients who require a longer expiration time. In other words it limits the amount inhalation before the machine switches to exhale. If you typically take longer breaths you would need the Ti max to be at a higher setting than someone taking shorter breaths. This better synchronizes the machine with your natural breath. The fewer breaths per minute the higher the Ti Max setting would be.

Be well,
Sam

Many of them are right here, and have answered questions in the Oscar 1.1.0 release release thread. :)

Also, you can go into 'help, about', and there's a list of contributors. :)
