Did your sleep study show any indication of a problem with limb movements, or do you move around a lot at night?

Nope, no periodic limb movements. Substantial hyperarousal and fragmented sleep.

I do too I’m a male in my 20s with some health issues and rarely use my machine because its hard to tolerate for some reason but something I noticed is when I use it I get a massive erection every time like never before and it can be uncomfortable like a bat and I can’t go to sleep

And I’m wondering if this is due to the blood flow or what this could be. I do some light exercise and try and eat a lot of fruit and veggies and lean turkey to counter extreme sleep deprivation.

Anyway good luck , these sleep issues are a complex difficult thing.

Dude...

Erections are a normal thing every night every 90 minutes as part of the REM sleep. It basically means you're a healthy male. If it's not something you're used to, it means your body is getting something it craves to heal itself -- sleep. Heck, at your age, some erections might even be painful -- difficult to ignore. Again, that's normal for a lot of guys your age.

If you can't go to sleep, get up and do something about it... If you know what I mean (wink wink). Then go back to bed.

That said, if it lasts for hours, well, that might be something to talk to a doc about, but I'm getting the impression it's more about not being familiar with something that happens to most guys, probably because you've been too sleep deprived to experience it in your teens.

For all we know, it' s an indicator that you should be using your sleep apnea machine on a more consistent basis -- like every night. I promise, you'll get more restful sleep if you do.

I hope this helps.

Chris

Ha ha, I meant brain easy arousability from sleep. But I see your point, as I sometimes wake up from sleep with an erection and my stomach distended, though not all the time like you describe.

Good luck to you, as well.

I see what you're saying.

Yeah, occasionally it can also be a wake trigger for the sleep arousal type of arousal too, and that what we're saying is he can't help but be woken up by it at this point in his therapy. I'm hoping that in just acknowledging that it happens and maybe managing the situation if necessary on occasion, it will resolve so that erections are not always a wake trigger. Just don't make a habit of it so you have to "manage" it every time, thus putting an extra challenge on your sleep hygiene.

Thanks for that response and I didn’t mean to hijack the thread but yeah I’m not your general typical male in their 20s like my doctor told me you can not compare yourself to others so I try my to. I have some serious chronic issues and I can’t function to the level of probably even people much older than me. Simple things are really hard. And there’s always been major deprivation and little to no REM without Atonia, oneiric behavior, violent myoclonus and extrapyramidal issues, autonomic dysfunction, complex seizures, premature aging, cognitive issues, etc I just play the cards I was dealt.

But yeah I think when use the bipap it maybe affects oxygen levels and blood flow

The number one and greatest thing I do is I never let anyone phase me like my doctor says. If someone can’t comprehend something or feels uncomfortable or don’t like me that’s their problem.
