waking up to use bathroom

Post by thesteam » Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:17 pm

Hello,
I wake up to use the bathroom about every 2-3 hours. Will it be affecting the use of a CPAP machine?
Are the masks detachable at the hose, or must you pull off the mask to go to the bathroom.
Thanks for any input. I couldn't find this topic.

You didn't say, but it sounds like you haven't started using CPAP yet. Are you aware that untreated sleep apnea is a cause of nocturia? Nocturia is having to wake up at night to urinate. Many of us have found that successful CPAP treatment ends the need for restroom trips during the night. Some people report having to get up six to eight times per night before starting CPAP. Many of these no longer had to do this after beginning the use of CPAP.

Now to answer your question directly, some of the masks have a quick disconnect at the hose. I prefer to disconnect the hose at the machine and wrap it around my shoulders for bathroom trips. I use a quick disconnect ( https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hose-quick-connect ) between the hose and the machine.

BTW, you have the right idea not to remove the mask when you get up at night. You don't have to fiddle with putting it back on and making sure the mask doesn't leak.

I'm with ChicagoGranny here.

I unplug the hose from my mask, no sense waiting a good seal.
I also can confirm that bathroom trips reduce or even eliminate. I can now relate my bathroom trips directly to quantity and type of fluid intake before going to bed.
Bottom line; i'm in charge of waking up to go.

Success on your sleep journey

Most masks have a "quick connect" feature so the hose disconnects from the mask very easily and you can keep the mask on so you don't lose the seal. Hopefully once you are using the CPAP your bathroom visits will reduce to 1.

What ChicagoGranny, RPDM and LSAT said.
Masks are generally easy to unplug from your hose. Just turn off your machine, pop off the mask, do your business, pop the hose back on the mask, turn on the machine. Sleep.

Many of us have reduced our night bathroom trips to 1 or less. Bet you will too.

Welcome!

I have been using my machine less than four months, and never have to get up more than once. It was NOT that way before cpap use!

Fewer pee-pee runs is a common benefit of cpap.
Also, some men may find their wedding tackle functions better.
It is always better to wake up BEFORE urinating than afterwards . . .

Can confirm the biggest surprise of starting my CPAP Therapy (December 2019) my 6+ trips a night to the toilet now see me sleeping through until morning. This and now rarely any indigestion have been as amazing for me as getting decent sleep!

Good luck with your treatment.
