Respironics nasal pillow: how to redirect the air?

Post by Icecream77 » Wed Apr 22, 2020 4:12 pm

I just got these nasal pillows and it’s working better than my old nasal mask but the air flow out of the vent is cold and it’s all over my face. I can’t deal with it. How do I redirect the air?

You can't redirect the air coming from the vent holes. What is it bouncing off of to go back to your face?
BTW...anyone wondering....video is for the Nuance Pro

Look for a nasal pillow mask that has diffused venting like the ResMed P10 nasal pillow mask. You can barely feel the vented air at one inch from the vent holes.

I use the Nuance Pro, it replaced the Swift FX for me. I found the Nuance was better than the Swift for not "blowing me cold" as the vent is contoured to better deflect air.

You should never alter or cover the vent on any mask.

NOTE! I use the Nuance in a traditional sense in that I do not route it over my head as it is designed to be used. I use a hose hanger and have the hose routed down toward my feet. I tried it over my head, but found I could not control the venting well enough to use it this way. I am also a side sleeper so these tricks may not work if you sleep on your back or stomach.

With this in mind, here are some of my tricks for keeping cold air off me:
1) Sleep on a feather pillow as these can be molded under your head / face to direct air away from you.
2) Pull your covers up over your shoulders and around your mask area to deflect (don't cover the vent!).
3) If the covers don't work, you can sleep in a long-sleeved shirt. Don't sleep in shirts? Wear arm socks. Another CPAP user taught me this. She bought a child's pair of fleece pajama pants and cut off the legs. She pulls these over her arms to keep the air off them.

Hope this helps.

Got it.

The vent blows air directly outward and it touches my hands when I sleep on the side, right near my face. When I sleep on my back, regardless of where the tube is, it blows air straight up and it basically feels like it’s touching my face.

This mask sucks.

Look at the ResMed AirFit P10 nasal pillow mask.
The venting is so diffused you have to have you hand about an inch from the holes to even barely feel the air moving...and it's silent as well. It does cartwheels around the Nuance.
