Six years in, time for a new machine/mask
Six years in, time for a new machine/mask
I’ve been compliantly sleeping with my machine and chosen masks for six years now. My machine is finally making noises and I believe the machine isn’t pumping like it used to. I have sent an email to secondwind to see what they have for the machine upgrade.
I have been using the simplus for the past six years. For many years it was great. I feel the quality of the cushions and headgear has gone downhill. Several times as of late the cushion hurts my nose or does not fit properly into the headgear causing leaks.
With all that said, I am sure many, better masks have come out. Any recommendations for masks I should try? Should I stick to ResMed s10 vpap? Thanks so much and it’s nice to be back and see so many of you that helped me so much six plus years ago.

Re: Six years in, time for a new machine/mask
Your comments section show that you are using the ASV type of machine.
You don't have much choice when it comes to ASV.....ResMed or Respironics are pretty much the only makers for ASV machines.
I suggest that you stick with ResMed because that is what you have been using all along and the algorithm is different on the Respironics ASV models. You may not do well or like the Respironics algorithm.
The current model in the ResMed line that is equal to your S9 Adapt model 36037 is the AirCurve 10 ASV. That's what you should look for.
As for masks...there's a lot of new full face masks out there. Some even have the hose attach at the top of the head.
You might go to cpap.com and just take a stroll through the full face mask options and see if something looks interesting to you.
I don't really use full face masks but if I did I would pick one of the new models that don't touch the bridge of my nose area. I don't do well with anything touching my nasal bridge.

As far as the mask is concerned, I love my Simplus...If it has been working well for you ..why switch. However, F&P has come out with a new model very similar to the Simplus that you might want to look at..it's called Vitera. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... -face-mask.

Thanks so much, Pugsy! I went ahead and got a really nice "gently used" AirCurve 10 ASV with a price drop. I just received it this morning and to my surprise, it has a whopping 1 hour of usage!Pugsy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:39 amYour comments section show that you are using the ASV type of machine.

I do have a quick question, the cellular connection bars are showing up as gray instead of green. Is this normal? I would love to be able to be able to use the MyAir app.

Re: Six years in, time for a new machine/mask
I am sorry but I have no idea how much cellular connection is needed to transmit to MyAir.
Do check to make sure it isn't still in airplane mode if you haven't done that already.
I don't use MyAir at all so I never really pay attention to the strength bars.
I have always preferred the more comprehensive data available on the software.
MyAir data is just mainly what is shown on the LCD screen anyway under the sleep report with some fluff added. Just not my style.

I regularly only get a single bar on my machine. It takes about an hour before the data is viewable on the MyAir app, but it still does upload just fine, not that I actually use MyAir that often.Pugsy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 1:56 pmI am sorry but I have no idea how much cellular connection is needed to transmit to MyAir.

Are your bars always green though? I haven't slept with the machine yet since I just got it today. What I'm curious about is if the bars on the display should be green, as they are gray right now.Midwest_non_sleeper wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 2:34 pmI regularly only get a single bar on my machine. Pugsy had the right thought here, are you sure that airplane mode isn't turned on? The bars should be green.Juanefny wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 2:50 pmAre your bars always green though? Although, I think when airplane mode is turned on, no bars are visible and it might just be the circle with the line through it. I'll verify when I get home.

Airplane mode is off b/c when it is on, I see a little airplane. Re: Six years in, time for a new machine/mask
I can't even find any bars to look at.
The manual says if the bars are gray that wireless transfer is not enabled.
Perhaps there's more to wireless transfer than simply turning off airplane mode.
I couldn't find a whole lot in the manual about it.
I do know you have to go to the MyAir website and register the machine's serial number....I have never done that.
It was a used machine and I figured it might already be registered to someone else anyway and if it was it won't let you unregister it...and I don't want to use MyAir so I never dug into going further with it.

Gray bars means that wireless transfer is not enabled, but I don't think there is a way for the user to enable that. I think that most of them come pre-setup from their provider like that. My google-foo is weak today, I found a handful of posts of what you're describing, and one person was able to get it fixed by getting a new machine from their provider.Juanefny wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 4:00 pmAirplane mode is off b/c when it is on, I see a little airplane. Thanks! I’m pretty sure I’ll leave it be very happy with My greatly discounted 1 hour asv machine. The sleep reports on the screen and sleepy head data will have to do

Re: Six years in, time for a new machine/mask
So last night I tried my new machine and a new mask for me - the airtouch F20. I was surprised to see that the mask does not shoot a whole bunch of air out like it always used to happen. When did change happen in machines/masks? My husband was extremely happy and grateful to not have a ton of air blowing at him lol
