DME forced to send me an SD card! HA!

Post by socknitster » Fri Mar 13, 2020 1:49 pm

When I went to pick up my brand new CPAP about a month or so ago the woman said that "they don't provide SD cards anymore because they aren't needed--the CPAP has a modem inside it to send the data directly to my doctor."

Which is BS. I've heard Resmed is adamant that they send out every machine with an SD card. (Because one of you guys told me.)

I meant to buy one, but I kept forgetting. Kinda a lot on my mind these days. Also, I figured out how to get into the clinical menu (thanks to you guys!) and as long as I know my AHI every day, I'm good. It's always below 5. Most days 2 or below. I'm doing great and feeling tons better. It's working!

Fast forward to this afternoon. DME calls and asks me if I'm using the CPAP. I said it was rocky the first few nights but I've been 100% compliant and sleeping 7-9 hours a night with it for 2-3 weeks now.

She says, "Huh. We're not getting any data from you. Are you unplugging your machine every day?"

"No ma'am."

"Well, we're gonna send you TWO SD cards. Put one in for 48 hours and send it back in a prepaid envelope, then use the second one. We have to prove to your insurance that you're using your machine."

LOL! Hahahahaha! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!

Check your settings to make sure the machine is not in "airplane mode".

When I got my last machine 6 months ago, the DME opened the box while I was there. There was no SD card included. She gave me one just for asking.

I had the same experience - new machine without an sd card included, and was given one for the asking. BTW/ the card is Resmed branded so Resmed does supply cards, but maybe no longer included with a new machine?

Or maybe the DME automatically unpacks them all.

No, the AirSense doesn't come with an SD card anymore, but the AirCurve still does

I wonder if https://www.cpap.com/ still includes an SD card with each Airsense machine purchase?

I bought one in January 2019 and another in March 2019 and they both had a Resmed SD card included.

If they still do, that would be another reason to buy from https://www.cpap.com/ when you wish to acquire a new CPAP machine. :D

I'm currently in "rent to own" mode via my DME/insurance. They warned me that I have a deductible on my insurance but did not ever give me the total cost of my machine. I don't like the games they play like that.

When it comes time, I will be comparing their end price with cpap.com's price to see which is lower and will buy accordingly--especially since the machine they gave me either wasn't set up correctly (regarding the "modem" inside) or the "modem" is not working.

Oh, and I also live in delighted anticipation to see what they will say when they discover I've altered the minimum setting from 5 cm to 6 because I felt starved of air. Heh.

No, not repeating. Besides, not all DME's lie. Especially, if they're a retail store. Also keep in mind that, if it's an older batch, it may still come with the SD card. Newer batch won't. DME's have to buy them separately from ResMed. Now also keep in mind that, just because yours comes with one, it still doesn't mean the machine came with it. Sometimes the DME may included one for your connivance, or it may be for monitoring purposes. Either way, it shouldn't be a deal-breaker. What matters most is the service you're getting from your provider.

It may not be a faulty modem. They may have taken down the wrong DN.
