oscar password reset
oscar password reset
my password for Oscar isn't working. Program tells me to ask how to reset in "forums". What forums? Where? How do I request a reset? I have been trying and am now frustrated and more upset than I ought to be I am certain but .... Help please.
Re: oscar password reset
Thank you to the people who looked but does no one know the answer to how to reset OSCAR password? Do i need to delete my OSCAR data and start over?
SAD is me.

Re: oscar password reset
I don't know how to reset the password because I never used it in OSCAR or SleepyHead.
Most people here don't use that feature.
You could try creating a new profile and see if things are still locked or not.
If they are the only thing I would know to do is a total removal and reinstall and this time don't touch the password stuff.
It's not something that is needed to be locked anyway.

Re: oscar password reset
To reset your password:
Becareful not to change any of the other data values, you would be wise to backup the file prior to changing it. And don't set the password again.
- Find your profile file:
It will likely be in a directory:
Documents/OSCAR_Data/Profiles/Your name/Profile.xml - Edit your Profile.xml file with a text editor
- Look for a line similar to the following:
<Password type="QString">5bd1ea03857f32d44458691d1e0114ed5</Password> - Remove the long string of hexadecimal data so it looks like this:
<Password type="QString"></Password> - Save your file.
Becareful not to change any of the other data values, you would be wise to backup the file prior to changing it. And don't set the password again.

Re: oscar password reset
For the longest time I didn't even know we had an option for creating a password.
You also don't need to put anything in that profile other than the profile name you want to use.
You don't need any of that other stuff for the software to do its thing. It's not needed at all.
I don't even use my name...I use "pugsy" as my profile name.
If someone hacked my computer and the software...they get nothing personal at all.

Re: oscar password reset
It's not an 'account', it's just a profile on your local computer. therefore, no password is needed.
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

Re: oscar password reset
Beats the hell out of me.
Mark put it in SleepyHead for some reason and since OSCAR started with SleepyHead then it got stuck in there by default.
Wouldn't hurt my feelings if the next version of OSCAR didn't include the password or all that other information that nothing gets done with.

Not a dumb question... but there's a number of things in SH that are firmly in the "why is this there".

Passwords where they are not needed--

Enjoy the OCD.
It is proof one is special indeed.
