Activa mask has major airflow coming from swiveling connector area

Post by sunsetblow » Wed Jan 15, 2020 3:05 pm

My machine says major leak, and the mask has major airflow coming out of the part of the front of the mask where it swivels/attaches to the tube. It doesn't look damaged and it looks correctly connected to me. Any thoughts?

(Also, side question, I have the Elite II machine. Would a full face mask like the AirTouch F20 work with the Elite II?)

I'm not familiar with that mask, but the swivel area is where the CO2 exhaust escapes

Yes. It will work just fine. Just be sure the machine is set to full face mask.

Is it possible that there is a small crack in the elbow assembly?

Have you tried brand new mask parts?

Ah so there has to be some air flow around there then? I wasn't sure if it should be completely sealed off... but the air flows thru quite quickly regardless of if I'm breathing in or out

Haven't tried new parts yet, just wanted to see if this was normal behavior for the mask... if not, I'd get new parts!

As long as the unit is running, there will be air escaping..perfectly normal.

All CPAP masks vent air constantly in order to purge your exhaled breath. Usually between 20 to 50 liters of air a minute (depending on pressure).

Because there is too much leak, in addition to what should be going through the vents.

Did this major leak just start? I have been using the Activa successfully for years now. First with the old S8, and now for the past oh, 3 years? with the Airsense s10.

I keep a few masks clean for the weeks run (5 to be exact). Out of the blue tonight, mask after mask failed with major leaks. Never an issue before.

And yes, I realize there should be flow coming out on exhalation. This is radically different.

The masks vent air all of the time, even while you inhale. The amount being discharged will go down some when you inhale, then increase slightly when you exhale. Air is constantly flowing through the mask. All that air coming through the hose has to go somewhere, and it is doubtful you could inhale all of it.
