First Night Jitters
First Night Jitters
Went today to get fit for my new sleep partner. Hope everthing works out well. How was everyone else's first night? Any suggestions?

A good, positive attitude is very important. And READ this forum every day. Have a wonderful sleep tonight. It's a bit strange, but as I remember so many, many years ago, so was the first night sleeping with my wife on our wedding night. It was strange to have someone else in my bed. But now I can't live without her.....and I expect you'll feel the same way soon about your "new" partner. Please read my post "After two weeks - I'm in love"

Everyone is right it takes time to get used to, for me when I first got my cpap I wanted to get used to breathing with it so I just sat down on the couch and hooked it up while I watched a movie. By the end of the movie I was completely comfortable breathing and have rarely had problems since.
Before I sat down with it like that I had feelings of claustaphobia etc. but it all went away just by becoming comfortable with it while awake first.

The hardest thing for me was to not fight the mask. It seemed like when I woke up during the night, I was trying to breathe as hard as the air was coming in and once I learned to just relax and let the machine do the work, it became much easier. Thanks for all the support and I will check in often.

Everyone reacts differently, but there is an adjustment period for all, some longer, some shorter. It probably helps to think of the CPAP as a helper not an adversary. And if you really log on here every day, avoid a handful of contributors who keep observing that you really need a kick in the a___ which they then offer to provide. I find those contributors offensive. I think each of us will notice some positive effects, and no-one has a completely positive experience, take it easy... just keep working on the adaptation process.
