Struggling with N20 nasal mask and pressure

Post by wcj1 » Mon Dec 30, 2019 10:59 am

I've been using an APAP for over a decade. My home machine is an S9 AutoSet and I use the Swift FX, which I pretty much love for my mask. I always wanted to use nasal pillows and they generally work very well for me. (Back in the first year when I had met my deductible and insurance was covering supplies, I did try a full face mask briefly, as I thought it might help when my allergies were bad, but I did not like it at all.)

Since I travel a fair bit, I also bought an AirMini 2.5 years ago as my travel machine and I am forced to use the P10 mask. More and more I hate the P10 as I struggle to get a good fit, it slips, I easily get leaks, etc. I recently bought the N20 to try at home with my S9, since CPAP.com has return insurance, thinking I might use that with my AirMini. I switched my APAP from pillows to nasal, but I can't fall asleep with the N20 because I am not getting enough pressure. I am not sure what pressure my S9 is set at (I think 9-15 or 10-15), but I know my average pressure with the AirMini is 12-13.

If I push my minimum pressure up, will I notice enough difference that I can fall asleep with the N20? Does anyone else use pillows and a nasal mask? I generally like the fit of the N20 and while it feels different in use that does not bother me. It is only the fact that I feel like I can't catch my breath with it that I don't like it. Or should I give up on a nasal mask if I prefer pillows?

I have to say that while I like Resmed machines, I hate that the Mini is so specific with masks.

I finally got into my settings and found that my S9 was set at 10-15 with a ramp of 9. I changed it to 11-15 and turned off the ramp and now I can fall asleep with the N20. I would not have thought that a difference of 2 with a different type of mask would make that much of a difference for me, but it did.
