Newbie - 4 weeks, night sweats

Post by swjones214 » Fri Dec 27, 2019 9:43 pm

I’ve been using my APap for four weeks (Resmed S10, w Phillips nasal pillow). Untreated AHI was 75.2, which I guess is pretty elevated. I rarely had trouble with night sweats pre-treatment, only on evenings where I’d overindulge in good spicy Mexican or Indian food. Humidifier set at 3. I am using Oscar to track my data.

For the last two weeks, using the S10, my AHI has stabilized at under 1.0, with under three or four CA’s, usually only 1 OA, and a couple of HA’s each night. Pressure usually under 6, occasionally bumps up temporarily to 8 or 9, then back down. I’ve found that sleeping on my back with a pillow under one shoulder (canting my sleep position slightly) works best. Previously I was completely a side or almost prone sleeper, but doing so now results in loads of CA’s, lots of mouthleaks, and a general feeling of malaise the next day (so its no bueno). The two or three nights I’ve tried sleeping semi-prone have resulted in AHI between 3 and 5. I’m trying to stick to sleeping on my back, it seems to just work better.

I go to bed at 9:45 or 10:00, fill up the humidifier, and am usually asleep in 10 to 15 minutes. Like clockwork, I wake up at 2-ish each morning, completely soaking in sweat, with the sheets feeling damp. Pressure around 5 or 6. I’m not breathing quickly, nor is my pulse bounding when I wake up, I’m just soaked in sweat. It usually takes me two or three hours to fall asleep again. I’ll then get another 90 minutes of sleep, up and at the day around 6:15.

I know I’ve have been dreaming again, for the first time in years, which is a little weird.

As noted above, night sweats are not something I’ve had to deal with pre-treatment, on a regular basis. But the last two or three weeks have been difficult.

Any words of wisdom, guidance, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I’m getting pretty discouraged because I hate the sweats!! Thanks!

Congratulations on such spectacular success treating your apnea!

I’m sure you’ve consulted Dr. Google; what I found sheds no light:

No new meds, right? And do you see an elevated respiration rate or tidal volume before the wake-ups?

I might suggest boosting your minimum pressure, since a lot of people find 5 a bit suffocating. But at your altitude, I am not sure whether that’d be a good idea. I hope a resident expert will weigh in.

All in all, I’d suggest making an appointment with your doctor.
