Need a new bed

Post by Sparky lulu » Sun Dec 22, 2019 3:09 pm

My wife and I are upgrading from a Queen to an Eastern King and I need some advice.
I am the one with Apnea. My numbers of late have been somewhere between 4.5-7 on my DreamStation.
She has started snoring recently as well so we want an adjustable bed.
The thing about buying a bed is it's like buying a car only, since you spend 30% of your life on it, even more stress inducing.

What are some thoughts on the best beds for those with Apnea. We are leaning toward Sleep Number but not sure. I just don't trust any online bed review pages, they all seem commercially motivated.

Thanks in advance.

Having the same problem here.
Sleep Number prices are INSANE!
I would dearly love to find a good knock-off for way less.

I usually sleep on my side, and with my head at least somewhat elevated, adjustable and soft so my shoulder doesn't hurt in the morning is good. I've never been able to sleep in a bed when I had a cold, and then a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, so we went shopping for an adjustable bed last fall.

We tried the Sleep Number beds in the store but I felt like making them soft just made me sink in at the hips and torso, on my side with it set to soft it wasn't comfortable for my back. I do use one of their memory foam pillows which works pretty well with masks and side sleeping.

We ended up with one of the softest Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattresses and twin adjustable Serta bed frames to make a king sized bed, and that's been working pretty well. I can sleep on my side with both ends of the bed up a little and I don't slide down. My parents have something similar but with a combination memory foam and spring mattress. Tempur-Pedic mattresses are pretty expensive but there are other brands. One disadvantage -- I haven't seen any bed other than Sleep Number where you can raise your partner's side if they're snoring, I have to wake up my wife and get her to raise her side if she's snoring. And I do wish the foot end of the bed could tilt down a little, but maybe that's too hard on mattresses.

My cousin used to work at a mattress store and he said tempur-pedic beds are the least returned beds and that they keep their shape the longest. They are expensive of course but we do spend at least 1/3rd of our lives in bed.

We have had an adjustable bed for almost 9 years. We bought a reversable mattress with firm memory foam on one side and medium memory foam on the other side. We have been very happy with the bed. We both have sleep apnea and severe arthritis of the spine.
