Any Experience with Medtron GP24 Battery

Post by Chitlom » Wed Dec 18, 2019 10:44 am

I inherited a battery which I really need because I live in South Africa and the electricity is not reliable.

The battery is a Medtron G-24 UPS01-24 for ResMed

I did not receive the charger or the cable that would connect the unit to my AirSence 10 AutoSet and at this point there is no possibility to recover them.

Before spending money on the charger and cable (which are not cheap), I wanted to find out if the battery is any good.

I do not use the humidifier or heated tubes and my 95% Pressure is between 10 and 11.

At this point in time the power is usually out for periods of 2.5 hours at a time but it is reasonable to expect that it could be going out for 4-5 hours at a time in the near future.

Thanks in advance!

You'd be much better off with something like a mobility scooter lead acid battery, a battery tender for it, and the 12v cable for the airsense. you'd get up to 5 nights without humidity, or easily your several hours even with humidity, and you could power it from that all the time, so when the power goes out at night, you wouldn't even have to wake up.

Thank you Palerider-

Do you have such a setup / can you recommend a specific battery tender (perhaps from amazon) so I can have someone bring it to me from the USA.

I had read somewhere that led-acid batteries were not very good for CPAP but I have no knowledge or skills in this area. Is there anything I should look for in the battery when purchasing?

Thanks for your advice, it would be great to have a set-up that I did not have to turn on when the power goes out.

Warm Regards from Cape Town

I don't know where you read that lead-acid batteries aren't good for CPAP, but there is a lot of stupidity out on the net, and that idea is an example of it.

Lead acid may not be great for *camping*, because of the weight, bit it's *great* for CPAP, absolutely the most runtime for your money of all the different technologies. Add some solar, and you won't care about the electric supply any more (at least as far as CPAP is concerned.)

Thank you PaleRider for all your help and sending down the right path.

Others who may be reading this thread in the future. Below is a link to a remarkably good source of information on running your Resmed CPAP from an inexpensive deep cycle battery:
