Mouth air bubbles
Mouth air bubbles
I have been a CPAP user for four months now and it seems to be getting easier. I am getting along much better with the machine than I was in the beginning. However...I am now getting air bubbles in my mouth that wake me flopping my cheeks. Weird sensation and don't know how to stop it. I check for leaks and know my mouth is closed so what is causing it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Common problem....we call it chipmunk cheeks. Search the forum for past discussions.
Not an easy problem to fix but for some reason your back door to your airway in the back of the mouth is falling open and allowing air to sneak into the oral cavity.
Ah-ha! A search term! Thank you, that's very useful.
OK, I'm lazy.
Hurry up with the FAQ thread.

Re: Mouth air bubbles
Practice holding the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Do this from the time you put the mask on until the time you fall asleep. If you wake during the night, practice it again until you fall asleep.
That tongue position helps seal the pressure off from the nasal airway to the mouth (cheeks).

Re: Mouth air bubbles
I'm a week into CPAP use and although I nose breathe most of the time I was getting this as well when sleeping. I started on a nasal mask and in a few days this along with large leaks out of my mouth were driving me crazy and ruining sleep. It seemed as just as I was relaxed enough to start sleeping my nasal/mouth seal would break and my cheeks would expand.
My way of dealing with it which hopefully will be effective was to go full face, I tried the Dreamwear FF and it seemed to work OK for both of my issues although it breaks it's seal once pressures go up. I'm hoping that once I get used to CPAP use to train myself to breathe through my nose while wearing a FF mask and then go back to nasal. Then again it might not be needed.

Re: Mouth air bubbles
I will start looking at that going forward but when I clicked on the mask it brought me to a nasal mask.

The N30i you have chosen in your profile is a nasal mask.Biomed_ZZZ wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 6:40 am
