Moisturizing Lotion?
Moisturizing Lotion?
This is my first autumn with CPAP and of late my face has really gotten dry. I have turned the humidifier up two notches but my morning shave has become very irritiating (I use a blade) since the weather became cooler and drier. I ride a bike outside 12-16 miles a day but I believe the dryness (especially around my mouth) is due to my F-F mask. Three questions for this astute and wise forum:
1) Is there a men's lotion which I can regularly use to re-moisturize my face during the day?
2) Is this lotion masculine-smelling or neutral and not make me look as if I wiped grease on my face?
3) Can this lotion be worn while the mask is on my face at night?
Thanks, as always!

Dex, my sons' use Gold Bond lotion. It has no smell. Its really high quality and a little goes a long way. I dont know though, if you should use it with a mask. It probably has something in it that would break down the silicone (I don't know, I am just guessing). It does absorb well into the skin.

I have used Lansinoh, and there is nothing that conditions like a thin coat of lanolin on warm, moist skin.
Note: Lansinoh is unscented, if you get the generic, you may smell like a sheepherder, but your skin will still be silky soft.

You might also like to try just plain vegetable glycerine. It really feels good on your skin and there is no scent. It is non greasy and light on the skin.

My wife opined, "Women will know the answer to your skin lotion questions".
Bingo, all three replies have been from ladies.
Thanks!

is it wrong of me to think of the scene from Silence of the Lambs....
It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

Same issue with skin irritatation. Also ride a bicycle cor many miles. I tried some of my chamois treatment on straps anz was a big help.

Thanks, "hueyville". Will investigate that angle, too. That's one thing about us CPAPers: we are an experimental and creative lot.

It's a slightly disturbing scene involving a character call Buffalo Bill... And his captive who he wants their skin to be good for "harvesting"
Look up youtube for the scene.
Or watch the movie.... Antony Hopkins is great in that movie.

Dex, for years I used Mennan Afta but they changed the formula and it started to burn, so I switched 20 years ago to Lubriderm body lotion for normal to dry skin. Soaks in fast, no smell, and moisterizes very nicely! I also use Dove bath soap. Doesn't dry out the skin like those 'manly' soaps like Irish Spring do.

Like you I used to be an Afta guy but I noticed that the stuff was really beginning to sting my after-shave nicks so I stopped using it.
I've always been a non-style man when it comes to soaps. Always figured that one hour after I used it the aroma would be gone. Besides, I'm 63 and have been married for 41 years so who am I trying to impress? No one else.
I'll give Lubiderm a shot. With the weather getting cooler, drier, and somewhat windier but my bike mileage still around 12-15 miles a day and the Quattro FX sitting on my Nordic mug every night, I'm conducting a less-than-scientific experiment to prevent redness and dryness from occurring.
Hmm: idamtnboy = Idaho Mountain Boy? If so, that's a neat handle.

Re: Moisturizing Lotion?
Sorry to drag up this REALLY old post, but some months ago I was having dry skin problems corresponding to where my face mask rests. It didn't make sense, but after searching the internet I briefly skimmed this tread and read "Afta" by Mennen, the after-shave lotion. I ordered a few bottles from Amazon delivered to Korea (this isn't a popular brand here in Seoul), and within a week my dry skin was all gone. Interesting the after-shave lotion I was using before didn't help at all (with the dryness of the face mask). Now that I finally got around to thanking you guys for the tips, I see everyone was saying that have QUIT using Afta. Oh well, I got the advice completely wrong, but it solved my problem anyway. Thanks from Seoul.
