can Soreness inside of my mouth be from wearing cpap mask ?

Post by Hopeful2 » Wed Nov 20, 2019 9:10 am

I have a sore spot inside of my mouth on upper left side between my teeth and cheek area . I am wondering if it is from where the nasal mask presses against my face at night .
Has anyone else experienced this? I also wear Invisalign braces and that might be part of issue .
I see my pulmonologist in the next few days but wanted to ask here about this problem.
Thank you !

See your dentist first... it probably is related to the Invisalign, but if not, then you'll at least have ruled out one thing.

Thanks Julie! I agree that the soreness is most likely due to my invisalign braces I appreciate your quick response. 🙂

While waiting to get in to the dentist, check any part of the brace that touches the sore.
It is possible there is a spot on the appliance that irritates the inside of the cheek.
Try cleaning it more aggressively--to a slick, smooth shine.
I get mouth sores if plaque deposits make a tooth just barely rough.
Plaque can stick to plastic as easily as teeth, if not more so.
I had braces, and my retainer was composed of similar materials to the invisalign.
And that puppy was a crud MAGNET! (Stinky, too!)
Any unexplained, stubborn mouth sore can get serious, so call your dentist.

You need to brush thoroughly and floss meticulously! This fixes such problems in the majority of cases. Of course, braces might get in the way of being able to do this. When you see your dentist, bring your mask and headgear. That way, (s)he can check to see if that could be the problem.

I floss and brush after every meal - these are invisalign braces .These trays pop out so I can eat and I brush floss and put them back in. Regular metal braces would probably cause more discomfort- I’m not sure It is probably the way the mask is fitting over my face puts pressure on the spot that is bothering me. I use a new set of Invisalign trays every week . I guess as my teeth move this affects things .
Thanks for your reply tho 🙂

Try putting something like a slightly padded band-aid over it under the mask tonite and see if it helps.

@chunckyfrog
Thanks for the advice. I do clean my plastic aligner trays after I remove them and before I put them back in. I did however look at the spot I think is rubbing against my inner cheek and it seems to be rather sharp. Maybe I can ask orthodontist to smooth it somehow. They are free of any residue or plaque - I use Polident cleaner and also toothpaste with a toothbrush to clean them.
Thanks again , hopefully the orthodontist can smooth any sharp places that might cause an issue.
