Oximeter datalogger
Oximeter datalogger
I am having a problem with high red blood cell count even though my cpap therapy is effectively treating my sleep apnea. (That is per my sleep doctor). My hematologist suggests I get a oximeter data logger. Does anyone know if I can rent a medical grade oximeter data logger?

Sure, or you could just buy a recording one off Amazon.higgledy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 9:06 amI am having a problem with high red blood cell count even though my cpap therapy is effectively treating my sleep apnea. They're really all "medical grade", the technology is simple.

High Rbc can be due to unrelated medical conditions... I'd get my MD involved before worrying about your gadgets.
Re: Oximeter datalogger
It was his doctor who suggested the gadget.

Re: Oximeter datalogger
Doesn't mean there isn't something else going on, especially depending on how Higgledy asked about the oximeter... I'd want to follow up on the other thing first.

More like he could have got two, $299 minus his (Lucky $75, so called discount)@ $ 225 way over priced rip off. He said he *SAVED* $75.
The contec is $81.
So, no, he could not have bought two for what he "SAVED", he could have bought 92% of one, with the amount he saved.

Re: Oximeter datalogger
He didn't Save anything, " The save was a sales gimmick", he paid for the overpriced product, over twice what the one that would do the job correctly would have cost. Re: Oximeter datalogger
just curious what the hematologist is going to learn about red blood cell count from a pulse oximeter that shows o2 level and pulse rate.

Re: Oximeter datalogg
Your doctor can put in order for you to rent a medical grade recording oximeter from your DME. The billing amount individual insurance policies allow likely varies, but for a frame of reference my BCBS Colorado policy has typically allowed them $29 for per night of oximetry.
I have found that my “non medical grade” contec is pretty accurate, but in my experience many doctors (and insurance companies) are dismissive of data produced from a non medical grade device due to concerns that they may not be accurately calibrated.
On a personal note, my son and I both have OSA. CPAP alone is enough to bring my nocturnal O2 levels up, but my son needs supplemental O2 in addition to CPAP at night. Before my son’s nocturnal oxygen levels were corrected with CPAP + supplemental O2 his RBC, Hematocrit, and Hemoglobin were crazy high.
Who knows what the cause of your high RBC count is, but since nocturnal O2 monitoring is a simple, inexpensive non-invasive test it seems like a reasonable place to start.
