Titration two nights ago - now Eyes Issue

Post by SleepyDeb » Wed Nov 06, 2019 7:45 am

Hi All...I had a titration sleep study done two nights ago and will not have the results for a while. In the meantime, the lab did not have the kind of mask I've been using since day one (Airfit) and suggested I try the Philips DreamWear full face mask. I did and loved it throughout the night. When I awoke the next morning my eyes were incredibly swollen - top lids, bottom lids, big bags and very gradually went away during the day. The mask was not leaking during the night. It felt good on my face. They gave me the mask and tubing to use at home. Last night I used it again and this morning - same thing - major swelling around the eyes While the lab techs could not tell me what pressure setting they used during the titration, I could tell it was increased a bit. At home, I kept it the same as usual. I don't know what to think of this as I really like the DreamWear mask. I always used size small on the Airfit and that's the size the lab used for the Dreamwear - I think it's a good fit as there are no side marks on my face and I was comfortable...just horrible eye swelling. I am a mouth breather and need the full mask. I did wake up groggier than usual today (could be from the old pressure setting) but AHIs were only 2.9 and I slept 7.5 hours. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Deb

It's possible the mask was not cleaned from previous use when they gave it to you. Or if was 'straight out of the wrapper', it may have had something irritant to you which had gotten into the plastic bag the mask came in.

Did you wash the Dreamwear before you used it for the second time, at home? And if you did, did you use a different soap or detergent from washing the Airfit?

It's also possible that you are allergic to silicon, even if you have been ok with it before. The Airfit mask is made by one manufacturer, the Dreamwear mask is made by another. It may be some difference in the composition of the Dreamwear mask is enough to trigger you.

That's a good point you're making about a possible allergy. The mask was brand new at the lab. I did not clean it last night before using it the second time. I did clean it this morning for tonight's use. I notice I'm still groggy/light headed since waking this morning at 7:30 a.m. EST...three hours later. I'm drinking water right now as I'm wondering if I might be dehydrated. I do drink one full glass with meds upon awakening - but it may not enough.
