New BiPap Hello

Post by Java » Wed Oct 30, 2019 11:31 pm

I am so confused I need help. I have had a Phillips Respronics BiPap since 2012/2103. Today I got a new ResMed AirCurve 10 BiPap. The machine stops blowing air when I exhale. My old one never did that. Have I been using a BiPap that was setup wrong for 7 years?? Do your BiPaps stop blowing completely when you exhale? I am really wondering why my old BiPap didn’t do this? I don’t know if the new one is broke or if the old one was never set up proper (Apria/Kaiser)

Thoughts and advice appreciated.

What were the settings on the Respironics BiPap and what are the settings on the ResMed AirCurve 10?

So which model Respironics machine and which model ResMed AirCurve machine (what does it say on the face of the machine lower right)?

Models are important because each model has different options available.

Got any software reports from the Respironics so we can see model and all the settings?

You can use OSCAR and get software data from the new machine.

We are going to need a lot more information than 13/17 to have any hope of figuring out why the new machine feels so different to you.

I’ve never used a Respironics BiLevel, only the regular fixed and auto modes, but Pugsy has you well in hand on checking settings.

However, I’ll just comment that exhaling feels very natural to me in both the regular Resmed Autoset and Vauto (BiLevel) modes. I think they do a better job with timing the inhalation/exhalation switch. The fan is also very quiet especially when exhaling. In the morning, I sometimes have a moment of wondering if the machine is still on, because I’m just breathing normally.

Yes, with my Resmed bilevel machine (S9 VPAP Auto) it tracks my breathing so well that all that happens is that it's easier to breathe when I'm wearing it.

I have used both brands of bilevel machines. I suspect that the difference felt is just the way each brand transitions during inhale and exhale and not a big deal but there is always the chance that there's something markedly different in the settings and that could happen.
Like in auto mode there is a default minimum PS of 2 in the 750 model that people can't see but it's going to feel different than the PS of 4 that settings of 13/17 gives.
So to know for sure we have to know exactly what the settings are now and were.
We don't know model and we don't know mode and we don't know all the settings.
13/17 tells me PS is 4 and that's all it tells me. Even if comparing fixed bilevel settings the Respironics might have had some change made to rise time or something.
Heck for all we know ramp might be being used and that's going to feel a whole lot different and ramp on the ResMed is going to be on by default and not a choice.
