We are in the midst of a wildfire emergency with the Kincade Fire, but luckily our power hasn't been cut this time. There have been a lot of evacuations but I'm in an area not on evacuation alert for the time being. The CPAP also helps me breathe filtered air all night, because our air quality is mostly bad (the big winds clear it out for a bit).

Saturday night there was a terrible windstorm. Winds up to 100+ miles an hour in a few places--hurricane force. I was awake all night, with things flying through back yards and Nixle alerts every half hour or so announcing new evacuations, but I had power and CPAP. The windstorm doubled the fire in size, but our heroic firefighters managed to hold the line and prevent the fire from consuming the town of Windsor. Last night a new branch of the fire started to threaten the northwest corner of Santa Rosa where I live--many people in that area have just finished rebuilding after the 2017 fires.

We anticipate another windstorm tomorrow and hope that the firefighters can continue to hold the line.

My spare CPAP is in the car in case of evacuation, and we are praying they get a handle on this fire soon.

I think no one in California would dispute this. I'd include the pilots of the guide aircraft, water, and retardant bombers and helos as well.

Stay safe, Jan, and any other cpapers in harms way this week.

Anybody, *anywhere*, that disputes it, doesn't have any good sense.

If you do use this https://www.amazon.com/Portable-FlashFi ... H4X60863GK with a humidifier how many hours of use would one get? My son and wife are both firefighters fighting the fires in Sonoma county and live near Calistoga, so I know it is brutal. Thanks

200w unit with a humidifier.... less than one night. I have a 500w unit and get about 13 hours with humidifier and heated hose. Without those, I think I would get at least two nights, possibly a bit more. Another variable to consider is what pressure. Higher pressures use more power. It won't be a dramatic difference, but could shave an hour of so off.

Olivia, please give your firefighting son and daughter-in-law a great big thank you hug from me. They saved our county!!! When they lifted the evacuation orders for Windsor (for those out of the area, the fire was burning on the eastern edge of Windsor, the town immediately north of Santa Rosa for the past several days) the firefighters and other first responders lined up at the freeway exits to welcome the residents home. My friends who live there were so moved! I hope Calistoga stays safe, I know it looked pretty bad there too! (for those out of the area, Calistoga is on the other side of the mountain where the fire was raging and when it turned away from us it headed up toward Calistoga).

The Flashfish lasted 9 plus hours without the humidifier. It's too underpowered to handle any thing that requires heat so it can't be used all night with a humidifier although passover humidification would help. There are bigger ones that can probably work with the humidifier all night, but I'm fine without the humidifier, even though our ambient humidity has been around 5 -6% (part of the reason we are having the fires). The smaller unit is lighter for carrying, it will recharge faster and be faster to keep charged when I get my solar panel.

I opted not to even do passover humidification in case we had to evacuate quickly at night. I didn't want to have to stop to empty and dry my chamber. I used a PRS1 for years after the humidifier crapped out, and I'm always forgetting to fill my chamber anyway, so I'm OK without humidification.

I think if I lived in California, I'd think about pulling a De - Jed Clampett, and move away from there! Maybe you could strike oil. Jim

I would like to spend 48 hours without electricity.
That is very easy to do. Simply go to your circuit breaker box and trip the main breaker (the big one at the top of the box) and wait two full days before you turn it back on. Personally, I would prefer to try this in the spring than in the middle of winter. :P :P

 I was thinking the same thing. Turn off the main breaker.
Easy Peasy  :D Personally though I'm not turning off the a/c in spring. I can deal without the heat.
