Why do private messages stay in the outbox?

Post by davep700 » Thu Oct 24, 2019 12:44 pm

Why is it that when I sometimes send a private message it ends up staying in the Outbox instead of sent items? These messages seem to have a Sent timestamp, yet lack of replies might suggest they weren't sent.

They stay in the "Outbox" until the recipient opens it. Then it moves to the "Sent" category.

Because they have not been read.

I have seen posts in a related thread to the effect of, "John Doe, you have a PM."
Not everyone gets auto-notified, not everyone hangs around.
Notifying the recipient in the thread is a good idea--if they are here.

i did not realize that not everyone gets notified.

i can now quit grumbling when i see someone being notified via post that they have a pm.

but now the question is, why doesn't everyone get a notification?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

It might be a setting under the control panel.
I've never messed with it.

Sometimes the notification sent goes to the person's Spam box and then they don't see the notification unless they check their "Spam" . . .

Why do private messages stay in the outbox?
Same reason one's former girlfriends don't listen to the voicemail messages one leaves?

this reminds me of something. i once knew a guy, not really a friend but more of a pest, who would leave five separate messages on my answering machine, asking me to call him back.

it annoyed the hell out of me, because ONE message would've done it.

**disclaimer: he wasn't my former boyfriend**
