Ramp setting

Post by Joecv5 » Tue Oct 15, 2019 5:37 am

Another question. As I said in earlier posts my test showed am ahi of 88. Once I got my machine and did some adjusting it has been between 5-3. Much improved but now it’s over 5. My last question was should I adjust my setting s again. It’s at 7-22. Should I go to 8? Another question is my ramp setting. I always start with the ramp setting because I don’t like the full force air when I’m trying to sleep. I’m finding I’m waking up during the night and pushing the ramp button because of the intensity of the air flow. Once I’m asleep it doesn’t bother me but it’s hard for me initially because i feel like it’s taking my breath away. Could this be causing my higher readings n it’s a debellis

If you mean 'de Vilbiss' (like my auto) then the ramp setting is not going to make a diff. to your AHI... nothing to do with it. I'm surprised actually than you find a min. setting of 7 cm pressure hard to manage initially as it's still quite low relative to how high it could start out (as others do), but it's a choice, so don't worry about it. Your problems may be more related to e.g. mask leaks, but unless you download Oscar (see first 'Announcement' top of pg) so we can see what's going on, it's hard to guess at.

I'm with Julie. A look at your data would help you get more targeted suggestions. Sometimes a little more on the lower end can make it not need to go as high on the upper end. It's the prevention vs cure thing. Your data should tell you if that could relate to you. If this is all still new to you, it may be that you'll be more tolerant of the pressures with familiarity. I would caution against hitting the ramp too many times during the night. Now, some machines will kick you out of ramp if it sees an irregularity it needs to respond to, but not sure if that's your machine. At any rate, it is prolonging you getting to a therapeutic pressure. When I first started no one told me to not overuse the ramp. When it was brought to my attention here, I did the math and I was spending over 2 hours of each night in ramp's sub therapeutic pressure. Good luck sorting things out.
