my brand new DESKTOP computer didn't come with a SD card slot. So, I would just buy an adapter instead of a completely new computer... unless you really WANT to buy a new computer. Apparently some new computers, desktop & laptop, don't come with SD card slots. Luckily my husband already had an adapter I can use, but adapters are not expensive.

ResMed SD cards are the standard size and not the tiny mini cards.
Most laptops will have the standard size slot for standard size SD cards.
If no slot (or the slot fails)....you can use one of the USB ports...just get an adapter/reader for the standard size SD card and plug one end into the USB port and the other end you put the SD card in.
Thank you.

You might be surprised to find how few laptops now do have these slots. In the 'olden days' when cameras had cards, the computers had to have them but now that most of us use our phone cameras, there is little need for them.

Was looking at the external readers but now I shall have one less bit of stuff to pack/look after/lose when I go snow-birding this winter...
If your newer laptop doesn't have a SD card reader it means you bought a cut rate, stripped down computer, you can be sure they made other cuts too make a bigger profit from you. like no DVD Burner. no Cat 5Hard Drive, MIN Ram. SPECs are important, but Quality costs. Jim

Goofproof, I have to disagree. I did not buy a "cheap" computer. My computer tech guru husband does not buy cheap computers. He looks for QUALITY. He does his homework & buys what he wants based on features & quality not price. If he happens to luck into a really good sale, then great, but price is not the primary factor. more and more computers are not including SD card slots. and that is the fact. period. technology changes.

Adding the SD slot would cost very little, 245 70 50 cents per unit. not much but a made a kit of units. A gain of millions in profits if you sold a lot of units.

They way to get a well made computer, learn and build your own out of the best parts, or have someone do it for you, providing you can trust them to do the same.

As far as laptops making your own is out. Most are built on the cheap standard.. Jim

my husband used to build his own computers, but now computers have come down in price. He calculated the cost of parts & found it more expensive to continue building them from scratch. He built his "super computer" several years ago that he uses for "folding" (medical research). He replaces parts as needed. I have a "gaming computer" right now but I am not a "gamer". My husband liked the features & it was worth the money for him. It did not come with a SD card slot. My husband's new laptop also didn't come with a slot, but my husband has been using an external SD card adapter for years that handles both standard & micro SD cards. Can a store bought computer be found with a SD card slot? maybe, but we haven't found one that we wanted to buy yet.

pale rider, why do you have it in for me? what did I ever do to you? You seem to have a problem with EVERYTHING I post. Not that it really matters, but I have an ASUS gaming computer. My husband's computer has no name brand because he bought the parts separately & built it himself. I call it a "super computer" because it cost over $5000.00 for him to build & it is a really fast computer. It is actually not a computer, it's a server. It does "folding" for medical research for Stanford University. It works on "jobs" sent from the university to help find cures for Alzheimers, Cancers, etc... that's all I know about his "super" computer.

Maybe someday, with the help of my husband and many others doing research for Stanford University, a cure for Sleep Apnea will be found

Folding@Home is a project from Stanford University that uses thousands of networked PCs to form a virtual 'supercomputer' for protein folding simulations. The client software is loaded on a PC, it contacts the central servers, and receives "work units"

I doubt it.

Because you often post stuff in an authoritative manner that happens to be misleading or flat out wrong.

Nope, if I did, I'd refute everything you posted.

That really doesn't narrow it down in the least.

I've got several servers.

My latest is a 12 core server with 144gig of memory in it. Is that 'super' too?

So do thousands of other people, there's nothing special about it.

No, not really. But if you want to learn more, you could just look up 'folding@home'.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with sleep apnea. More 'good sounding' but misleading commentary.

Well......I have been shopping laptops lately because the one I have is getting long in the tooth and acting up on occasion.
So far pretty much all the normal store brands and models that I (as a lay person) would be considering all have slots for SD cards.
Sometimes they are hard to find but they are there.
And I don't shop expensive computers/laptops at all....I am the queen of cheap.
Most traditional laptops (not counting tablets) that I have seen....have SD card slots.
Tablet's do not...and neither does my IPad Pro which is something of a laptop tablet I guess.

I bought two laptops, they fold and are tablets too, I bought them for $375, They were much better than what I paid for, one went to my granddaughter, for nurse training, her dog jumped on it and broke the touch screen. Mine had a 1 TB hard drive, starting to rattle, so I took and tried to make one, using the other hard drive. broke the HD connector, found out the two like computers I bought were not alike.
Can't get around so it's a lost cause, so they go in a corner!
Now I am using a 6 mo old ASUS X540Y, $ 275, it's a pig in the poke, Looks good but so slow on Win 10 it's almost useless, Keyboard is unlit.won't even tell you the caps or on or number Lock is on. Only thing I can say about it. USB "C", is Fast.

All three bought in the last year and a half cutting edge, and have SD ports built in.
I'm using laptops because my server I built 12 years ago, and have rebuilt and upgraded has failed, and my health won't allow me to rebuild it again It's a Super Tower, only the best parts allowed in it, ran 24/7 year around
