Well last night was my first time ever - Looking for Advice
Well last night was my first time ever using my new ResMed AirSense10 AutoSet machine and Resmed AirFit N30i mask .
OSCAR installed on my computer and new 32GB SD card put in the machine .
I purchased the machine my self so no doctor was involved to recommend my settings.
My settings are as follows
Main Menu
Ramp Time – Auto
Climate Ctrl – Auto
Tube Temp – Auto
Pressure Relief – On
Smart Start – On
Mask – Pillow
Run mask fit used on start up.
Clinical Menu
Mode – Auto Set
Max Pressure – 10.0
Min Pressure – 6.0
Response – Soft
Ramp Time – Auto
Start Pressure – 6.0
EPR – On
EPR Type – Full Time
EPR Level – 1
AB Filter – No
Essentials – Plus
Press.Units- cmH20
Humidifier – Auto
So at first putting on the mask felt strange , but after a while I started to get use to the feeling with out any problems.
One area that seems to be causing me a problem is this ......
When I breath in through my nose it feels ok , but when I try to exhale out through my nose it feels like there some thing blocking the airs path and I have to exhale harder each time .
So breathing in through my nose feels easy to do but breathing back out through my nose feels restricted in some way
I have tried a different size of pillow . But the feeling was still the same , in the end I have to remove the mask as the constant effort trying to breath out gets annoying.
Could my problem be settings related ?
Thanks - Mark

Welcome.
You could try raising the EPR number to provide more exhale relief. There is no reason to limit the high setting on the machine. It would only go that high if it sensed a need.
Follow the instructions in the New Users post and show us some data.

Set your min pressure to 7, max to 20 and EPR to 3.
Get OSCAR

Congratulations on starting apnea therapy! Palerider has recommended settings for you, and if you’ll post a daily chart after you start using them, the experts can help you fine-tune.
You will probably find exhaling easier with the EPR of 3. It could also be helpful to use the mask and machine during the day, while you’re reading or watching TV, just to acclimate yourself to the feel of it.

and to follow on with with the wise advice of the miss, please to post your charts right here in this thread, rather than start a new one. makes it easier to keep track and all of that.Miss Emerita wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 9:37 amCongratulations on starting apnea therapy! Re: Well last night was my first time ever - Looking for Advice
Thanks for the advice .
So I set my machine to the settings you suggested and I noticed a small ‘’better’’ change in the amount of effort I had to do to breath out through my nose. But It still feels a little like I have to still make an effort to push the air out of my nose when breathing out . Are there any further settings that I could adjust to make the effort of breathing out through my nose a more pleasant and less effortless experience.
Last night within a few minuets as I was using the machine and trying the new settings the house mains voltage went off ( a normal occurrence where I live ) and by the time the power came back on I was asleep with out my mask. so I don’t have any OSCAR info . Hopefully tonight there will be no power cuts.

As soon as I have a full nights OSCAR information I will post it here, and hopefully get to see what other forum members think.

You are exhaling against a very gentle pressure.MarkMyWords wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:06 pme. Just keep at it, soon you won't even notice.
If it's a frequent occurrence, then you might want to invest in a mobility scooter batter, a battery tender, and the 12v adapter for your machine, so that when there's a power cut, you won't even notice... the machine will keep going all night long.

Re: Well last night was my first time ever - Looking for Advice
Well last night ( The 9th of October ) I went to bed at around 10pm . I had my machine adjusted to the suggested settings made by palerider.
Over all the mask generally felt comfortable and the nose pressure I have to use to breath out feels a bit less restrictive than before I changed the machines settings .
One other thing that occurred while wearing the mask ( not all the time ) was a strange feeling like a small build up of air popping out of my mouth .
While wearing the mask I only breath through my nose and have no problems doing that.
From what I remember I went to bed with my mask on around 10 pm , and never really fell asleep at all . In the end as I was not able to get to sleep I took the mask off and switched the machine of as well.
I do have the OSCAR information report on my computer , but from what I can tell the information does not seem to be the same sleep period as I remembered ( bed at 10pm – take mask off – switch machine off 1 am) .
On OSCAR I see many graphs but I’m not sure which one’s I should post ?
I know its early days and although I am starting to feel comfortable wearing my mask but I have not yet been able to fall asleep
, I have started to wear my mask during the day and while watching TV, but I'm hoping that soon I will be able to actually go to sleep at bed time while using my CPAP machine .
Any thoughts or advice most welcome.
Mark
