New guy saying hello

Post by REP » Sun Dec 10, 2006 11:11 am

I was pleasantly surprised to find the this board after being told I was going to be getting a CPAP machine. Many thanks to all that take their time to help people like me.
Here is my brief version of my story. In August I went to my reg doctor with some weird things going on with my heart (I have a lot of family history of heart troubles) he ran a EKG and told me I had PVCs Premature Ventricular Condition and right away asked me about my sleep habits. He sent me to a sleep doctor and a cardiologist. I had both appointments on the same day the cardio doc was first and after looking at my EKG and asking a few questions himself he says I need to see a sleep doctor. He was happy to hear I had a appt that afternoon. I went to SD and had a sleep study done. It was horrible couldn't go to sleep couldn't stay asleep bad bad bad. End result was I was having 13.3 distubances an hour not enough to go on a machine. I asked her to run the test again I didn't think the first one was accurate. She says no. So I asked my cardio doc for his SD for a second opinion and he sent me to a his SD who I took my first SS results from and he had lots of questions about my results (that first SD should have asked I think) So that brings up to last friday night I had my second SS done. I slept the first 3 hours just being monitored then the rest of the night with the machine and now I am awaiting the results from my SD. The man running the test told me if he hooked the machine up to me in the night that it would mean that I need the CPAP on a regular basis. The next morning he told me that he tried me at 4 different pressures and the the SD would decide which one I would need. So now I am reading and trying to make sense of all this. I am happy to have found this place and I am sure I will have questions as I move along and hopefully I can offer a little help to others as well. Questions, comments or suggestions welcome. Thanks for reading.

Dave

Hi Dave-you've come to the right place. You'll no doubt have a ton of questions in the "newbie phase" just remember we've all gone through it at some point and most important-THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS
Welcome!

You MUST KEEP READING all the topics in this forum. You have "the problem" and need to find out as much about it as you can because your doctor and your respirtory therpist aren't going to tell you what you need to know!!! Read EVERY POST. Read, ask, inquire, be nosy. I did just that and I came through the initial gauntlet smelling like a rose. I'm sleeping FINE, and I know what's going on. YOU NEED TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Now, get out there and read the forum!
